बुद्ध के उपदेश :-

जन्म, मृत्यु, रोग, इच्छा आदि सभी दुःख देते हैं.
किसी प्रकार की इच्छा सभी दुःखों का कारण है.
तृष्णाओं पर नियंत्रण करना चाहिए ताकि हम दुःख से बच सकें.
सांसारिक दुःखों को दूर करने के आठ मार्ग हैं. इन्हें आष्टांगिक मार्ग या मध्यम मार्ग कहा गया है. मध्यम मार्ग को अपनाकर मनुष्य निर्वाण प्राप्त करने में सक्षम है.

आष्टांगिक मार्ग --
सम्यक् (शुद्ध) दृष्टि – सत्य, असत्य, पाप-पुण्य आदि के भेड़ों को समझना
सम्यक् संकल्प – इच्छा और हिंसा के विचारों का त्याग करना
सम्यक् वाणी – सत्य और विनम्र वाणी बोलना
सम्यक् कर्म – सदा सही और अच्छे कार्य करना
सम्यक् आजीव – जीविका के उपार्जन हेतु सही तरीके से धन कमाना
सम्यक् व्यायाम – बुरी भावनाओं से दूर रहना
सम्यक् स्मृति – अच्छी बातों तथा अच्छे आचरण का प्रयोग करना
सम्यक् समाधि – किसी विषय पर एकाग्रचित होकर विचार करना
