Deeply saddened by the tragic incident at Satya Niketan, Delhi, which has claimed precious lives and left several others injured.
msf Delhi University expresses its deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and stands in solidarity with all those affected. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and strength for their families during this difficult time.
This tragedy raises serious questions about the failure of the authorities to ensure safe living conditions for students and residents. Students living in rented accommodations, hostels and paying-guest facilities deserve basic standards of safety, dignity and security. Human lives cannot be put at risk because of administrative negligence, inadequate inspections or the failure to enforce safety regulations.
The Government must take immediate responsibility and ensure:
- Adequate compensation to the families of those who lost their lives.
- Free and proper medical treatment and necessary support for the injured.
- A transparent and time-bound investigation into the incident.
- Strict accountability for officials, owners or authorities found responsible for negligence.
- Immediate safety inspections of student accommodations, hostels and other vulnerable buildings across Delhi.
- Effective measures to ensure that such a tragedy is never repeated.
The safety of students and the protection of human life must be treated as a fundamental responsibility of the State, not an afterthought.
Every life matters. Every student deserves to live and study in safety and dignity.
