Thirty years after publication, Marie Ndiaye’s staggering book ‘The Witch’ has been shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. A living literary legend whose decades of work is slowly beginning to acquire global acclaim, Ndiaye deftly straddles the line between the magical and the mundane, bringing to the surface the dark underbelly of the human condition universal to all, but equally so,  hidden under social constraints.

In ‘The Witch’, she uses a simple conceit - the idea of a witch teaching her children her craft - to take the reader on a dizzying journey through a woman’s struggle to come to terms with a time of life in which she is abandoned by the people she has spent a lifetime serving, as she tries to make sense of who she might be without the anchors of womanhood to shape her.

India celebrates 80 years of Independence today, and we want to take the opportunity to celebrate our long and storied relationship of literature between our two cultures! From iconic Indian authors such as Premchand to contemporary translations from French scholars today, the Indian literati has had a deep connection with French ideas and books, reflected in translations of these French titles into Indian languages across the country.

Today, we want to shine a spotlight on these incredible Indic translations, with the hope that this wonderful cross-cultural intermingling continues to make history.

Para Élan Takes the Field 🏟️

Today, Thyagaraj Sport Complex turned into common ground - Sabka Maidan as 300 students from public and private schools across Delhi traded classrooms for the stadium. Wheelchair table tennis, blind football, one-legged badminton: each game a small lesson in resilience, equality, and inclusion.

We partnered with the Indian Paralympic Committee to launch Para Élan, a three-year journey aiming to bring French language and para-sport to over 10,000 students nationwide, carrying forward the spirit of Paris 2024.
