Together, APCTT and UNV India are relaunching the campaign, highlighting simple but powerful ways AI is being used to help communities prepare for climate risks across Asia and the Pacific.

This week’s featured innovation is by Mr. Umesh Yadav from Nepal, showcased at the Technology and Innovation Conclave 2.0:

Early warning for landslides:
AI brings together information from rainfall, soil moisture and other sensors to identify areas at risk of landslides to alert local authorities.

Weather advice for farmers:
AI turns weather information into simple, practical advice. Farmers in flood-prone areas receive forecasts and crop advice directly through SMS, even on basic mobile phones.

Drones helping restore forests:
AI-powered drones have identified degraded forest areas and dropped seeds packed with nutrients to support new growth. The work has helped restore forests and improve water systems, benefiting more than 121,000 people while helping reduce landslide risks.

From warning communities about landslides to helping farmers plan ahead and restoring forests, these innovations show how technology can turn information into action where it matters most.

Together, APCTT and UNV India are relaunching APCTT’s campaign, spotlighting AI innovations advancing climate action and resilience across the Asia-Pacific region. These innovations were showcased at the exhibition during the Technology and Innovation Conclave 2.0. This week’s featured innovation: AI and IoT-Driven Early Warning and Emergency Response for Safer Communities by Ms. Cristina Macaraig, Philippines.

This AI-powered emergency and disaster response platform integrates IoT sensors, computer-vision-enabled CCTV, mobile reporting, and geospatial intelligence into a unified system for real-time alerts and faster response. At its core, AI detects incidents and filters false alarms from IoT sensors, enables 24/7 monitoring and analysis of incident reports, and powers geospatial mapping for coordinated emergency response.

Alerto PH enables households, communities, and local governments to detect risks early, coordinate responders, and protect lives and assets especially for women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

SDGs addressed: SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Innovations like this integrate AI, IoT, and geospatial intelligence to turn real-time data into early warnings, enabling faster, more inclusive, and more effective disaster response and climate resilience.

This week’s featured innovation: AI-Based Climate Downscaling and Advanced Predictive Systems by Dr. Arnida L. Latifah, Indonesia.

This research uses AI to turn coarse global climate data into detailed, location-specific insights that can be used at the national and local levels. Through climate downscaling, the system converts large-scale climate models into high-resolution data, making it possible to understand risks such as heatwaves, heavy rainfall, and wildfire conditions in specific regions.

This directly addresses SDG 13 (Climate Action) by enhancing resilience and early warning systems, and SDG 15 (Life on Land) by mitigating forest degradation and biodiversity loss through data-driven wildfire prevention.

Innovations like this transform massive climate datasets into actionable intelligence for disaster risk reduction which further enables rapid-response to climate adaptation.
