Ms. Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA), flagged off mobile vans of NCCF and NAFED from Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, marking the start of retail sale of onions through government buffer stocks at ₹35/kg.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Khare highlighted that there is sufficient production and availability of onions.

However, in order to stabilize the price volatility of onions owing to festive demand, the government has taken proactive measures to cool the prices down.
Retail sales through 9 stores of NCCF, 13 stores of NAFED, 100 stores of Kendriya Bhandar, 40 mobile vans of NCCF, and 39 mobile vans of NAFED will start with effect from 27.08.2026.
Through strategic buffer stocking, scientific storage, and timely market intervention, the government continues to work towards ensuring a steady supply of onions and stabilizing prices to protect consumer interests.
