The meeting focused on strengthening Aadhaar enrolment, authentication, updation, and monitoring across the district.

Key discussions:
- Status review: Current Aadhaar enrolment and saturation levels in Ri Bhoi
- Coverage gaps: Special focus on children and residents in remote/vulnerable areas
- Service delivery: Issues with updation, demographic/biometric corrections, and authentication
- Coordination: Improving inter-departmental coordination and fixing department-wise responsibilities
- Challenges: Documentation, connectivity, awareness, and reaching difficult-to-access areas

The meeting stressed continuous monitoring and joint efforts to ensure every eligible resident can access Aadhaar services and that government services linked to Aadhaar are delivered smoothly.

Successful Recruitment Drive Held at ITI Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District

Nongpoh, 19-08-2026: The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) successfully conducted a recruitment drive at ITI Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District on 19th August 2026.

The drive witnessed an encouraging turnout with over 250 candidates registering and participating for various job opportunities across different sectors. Trainees from ITI Nongpoh and nearby areas took part in the recruitment process with enthusiasm.

The primary objective of the drive was to bridge the gap between skilled trainees and industry requirements while providing direct placement support. By bringing employers and job seekers onto a single platform, MSSDS aimed to facilitate meaningful employment opportunities for the youth and strengthen industry academia linkages in the region.

The event concluded on a positive note, with several candidates shortlisted for further rounds by participating companies. MSSDS reaffirmed its commitment to continue organizing such drives to enhance employability and support the skilled workforce of Meghalaya.

Nongpoh, Aug 17: Officials of the Ri-Bhoi district administration and Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam on Monday held a joint meeting at the DRDA Conference Hall here to discuss the recurring flooding along the Jorabat-Khanapara stretch.

The meeting was convened to deliberate on the causes of flooding in the area and explore possible measures to address the problem, which has repeatedly affected residents and commuters along the National Highway.

The Jorabat-Khanapara stretch is particularly vulnerable to waterlogging during heavy rainfall, with large volumes of water accumulating on the highway and disrupting vehicular movement. The recurring flooding has also caused considerable inconvenience to people residing along the highway.

The meeting was chaired by Ri-Bhoi Additional Deputy Commissioner Balakyntiew Ranee, in the presence of senior district officials. The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration was represented by ADC Raja Baishya, along with other officials.

The discussions focused on identifying the root causes of the recurring flooding and finding long-term measures to mitigate the problem. The meeting also underlined the need for close coordination between the administrations of Meghalaya and Assam to work out a sustainable solution to the issue.

Ri Bhoi District Administration Reviews Special Intensive Revision (SIR) with Political Parties:

The Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Dr. Abhishek Saini IAS, convened a consultative meeting today with representatives of recognized political parties at the DC Office, Nongpoh.

The meeting focused on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, with particular emphasis on the Claims and Objections period and the standard procedures to be observed during this phase.

Key discussions centered on:
* Ensuring an inclusive, transparent, and error-free electoral roll across the district.
*Schedule of hearing for notices given to electors who are unmapped and have discrepencies in the data.
* Standard procedures for the timely receipt and verification of claims and objections.
* Encouraging active coordination and participation from Booth Level Agents (BLAs) representing all political parties.

Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) across all assembly constituencies of Ri Bhoi District were also present during the meeting.

Ri-Bhoi celebrates Independence Day 2026 with Run and Cricket Match as part of additional events

Nongpoh, Aug 15: Along with the main Independence Day celebrations, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi, in collaboration with the District Sports Officer (DSO), Ri-Bhoi, organised additional sporting events on Friday to mark the occasion.

The day began with a 7-km ‘Independence Day Run’ open to both men and women. The run started at Lay Bye Market, Dulongnar and culminated at the Indoor Stadium, Umlyngkdait. It was flagged off by Assistant Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi, Gameliel Mynliem, in the presence of DSO Ri-Bhoi Bobby L Nongbet and other officials.

Winners:
- Men: 1st - Lapynkhraw Thabah, 2nd - Kobarlin Doloi, 3rd - Rosham Teron
- Women: 1st - Jeny Ramde, 2nd - B.G. Makri, 3rd - Julina Bongrung
- Senior Men: Pel Bey Senior Women: Sonra Rani

In the afternoon, a Tennis Ball Cricket Match was held at 3:00 PM at RBDCA Cricket Ground, Pahamsning Nongkhrah, Nongpoh between DC XI and SP XI.
In a thrilling finish, DC XI defeated SP XI by 10 runs, adding to the festive spirit of the day.

Prizes and cash awards were distributed to the winners of the run, while both cricket teams were appreciated for their participation.

The additional events saw enthusiastic participation from residents and officials, promoting fitness, unity and community spirit alongside the main Independence Day programme.

Nongpoh, August 15: A strong wave of patriotism swept across Ri-Bhoi District as thousands gathered at the NSCA Playground, Pahamsyiem, to mark the 80th Independence Day of India.

The celebration was led by Minister Marcuise Marak, who attended as Chief Guest, unfurled the National Flag and took the salute at the ceremonial parade. The event witnessed the participation of around 25 contingents comprising police personnel, school students, NCC cadets and Bharat Scouts & Guides.

The programme also featured patriotic songs, traditional dances and cultural performances by students, adding colour and vibrancy to the district-level celebration. Among those present were Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, Rona Khymdeit, Deputy Commissioner Dr Abhishek Saini, SP Giri Prasad and other officials and dignitaries.

The 12th National Handloom Day 2026 was celebrated at the Integrated Textiles Tourism Complex (ITTC), Nongpoh, highlighting the rich tradition, craftsmanship and cultural heritage of Meghalaya’s handloom sector.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, along with Textiles Minister Shri Metbah Lyngdoh, Nongpoh MLA Shri Mayralborn Syiem, senior government officials and other dignitaries, joined the celebration.

The occasion also witnessed the inauguration of an exhibition showcasing handloom products from across Meghalaya and a Centre of Excellence for weaving and handloom activities. Young participants also showcased the beauty and versatility of Ryndia fabric, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern fashion.

International Youth Day 2026 Observed in Nongpoh
Nongpoh, August 12: The District Sports Office, Nongpoh, in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, observed International Youth Day 2026 at St. Paul’s Parish Hall, Nongpoh, under the theme “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnerships.”

The programme highlighted the role of youth in technology, innovation, partnerships and community development, and was attended by DC Ri Bhoi Dr. Abhishek Saini, District Informatics Officer Jonathan Marbaniang, District Sports Officer Bobby L. Nongbet and students from across the district.

The District Social Welfare Office, and District Administration innaugurate the newly office name Shakti Sadan a significant step toward strengthening institutional support systems, redressal, and rehabilitation for women in distress.

The gathering witnessed the presence of Smt. N.F Sunn District Social Welfare Officer cm Nodal Officer Shakti Sadan, Shri. Remy Nelson Kharbteng, State Mission Coordinator, Smt. M. Kharbihkhiew, District Mission Coordinator District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Smt. M. Kharkongor Gender Spcialist State Hub for Empowerment of Women , Shri Manlang Mawphniang, Village Secretary, Smt. Anju Lapang, Secretary of the Local Complaint Committee, officials from different departments, women police personnel, staff from the One Stop Centre (OSC), Staff from District hub and Shakti Sadan and other dignitaries, alongside Lamjingshai VO Mawdiangum, who presented a welcome song.

The programme featured collaborative addresses and keynote speeches highlighting community-level and institutional safety nets:
Chief Guest's : Dr. Abhishek Saini, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the official inaugural address. He stressed the importance for community leaders to spread awareness about these vital services and urged leveraging MSRLS through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to ensure awareness generation reaches women in need.
Representatives from Directorate of Social Welfare: Shri.Remy Nelson Kharbteng, State Mission Coordinator, spoke extensively on the multi-faceted benefits of Shakti Sadan, highlighting how the facility aims to provide holistic rehabilitation, safe shelter, counseling, and integrated support services for women in distress.
Services Provided:
• Safe temporary shelter, food, clothing, and toiletries.
• Psycho-social counseling and mental health support.
• Legal aid and primary healthcare assistance.
• Vocational training to foster financial independence and rehabilitation.
• Facilitation of government entitlements and documents (such as Ayushman Bharat health cards and Jan Dhan bank accounts).

The formal ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Resident Superintendent of Shakti Sadan, Smt. Merilis Syngkli, followed by an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and an exclusive facility walkthrough for the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, and invited dignitaries.
