Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan
A drug-free society is the foundation of a healthy, prosperous, and developed India.
On the occasion of Nasha Mukt Saptah (17–26 June 2026) and the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (26 June), to create sustained nationwide awareness on the prevention of substance abuse through coordinated media outreach, citizen participation youth engagement, and community mobilisation.
Pakyong marks International Day of Yoga, 2026 with Yoga Sangam and NMBA pledge drives.
Pakyong, June 21 (IPR): On the occasion of Nasha Mukt Saptah (17-26 june 2026) and the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, observed under the theme "Nasha Mukt BharatAbhiyan - viksit Bharat ki Pehchaan", was marked in Pakyong through Yoga Sangam held at St Xavier's School auditorium in this morning.
The programme was organised by the Department of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim, in association with the District Administrative Centre (DAC) and Social Welfare Department, Pakyong.
Yoga Sangam, the flagship nationwide mass yoga demonstration under the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, brings together participants across the country to perform the Common Yoga Protocol simultaneously.
The event was graced by Zilla Adhyaksha, Pakyong District, Mrs Laden Lamu Bhutia as the chief guest, in the presence of Zilla Upadhyaksha, Mrs Prabha Pradhan.
The programme witnessed participation from District Collector, Pakyong, Ms Pari Bishnoi; APS to the Chief Minister, Pakyong District, Mr Bishal Sharma; President, Pakyong Nagar Panchayat, Mr Inchung Bhutia; Chairman, Commerce and Industries Department, Ms Nim Chiki Sherpa; Chairman, Cooperation Department, Ms Bidya Biswakarma; OSD to MLA, Namcheybong Constituency, Mr Hari Rizal; OSD, IT Department, Mr Bum Tshering Yonzon; CA to the Chief Minister, Mr Urgen Lepcha; SDM (HQ), Mr Thendup Lepcha and SDM Pakyong, Mr NK Bhandari.
During the programme, Medical Officer, AYUSH, Dr Kuljan Lama briefed participants on the significance of yoga and the teachings of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. He also highlighted the role of yoga in promoting physical, mental and emotional well-being.
In addition, he underscored the importance of integrating yoga into daily routines as a means of fostering a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
The session commenced with mobility drills and warm-up exercises, followed by demonstrations of various yoga practices prescribed under the Common Yoga Protocol, including standing, sitting, prone and supine postures. Participants were guided through asanas such as Ardha Kati Chakrasana, Bhadrasana, Vajrasana, Marjariasana, Bhujangasana and Surya Namaskar.
The session also featured breathing techniques and relaxation practices aimed at improving flexibility, balance and overall health.
The demonstrations were conducted by members of the Pakyong Yoga Club, while Dr Lama explained the benefits and correct practice of the various asanas and yogic techniques.
Following the yoga session, Welfare Officer, Social Welfare Department, Ms Sunita Dahal highlighted the role of yoga in promoting physical, mental and social well-being. She also emphasised the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles and collective efforts towards building a drug-free society.
A pledge under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was also administered by Ms Dahal, wherein participants resolved to contribute towards creating a drug-free society by encouraging awareness within their families, communities and social circles. The pledge underscored the importance of individual responsibility in advancing the vision of a drug-free district and nation.
Also present at the occasion were members of the Pakyong Nagar Panchayat; Heads of Offices; police personnel; NDRF personnel; officials and staff from various departments under DAC Pakyong; members of the Pakyong Yoga Club and members of the public.
