Kelva Beach

Kelva Beach Its an awesome place to hang out.. The beach is about 7 kilometres long. It is easily accessible from the Kelve Road station situated about 5 kilometres away.

Kelwa beach - sometimes also known as Kelva or Kelwe beach is a pristine stretch of sea shore and a popular weekend getaway for tourists from Mumbai. Although not a very famous tourist attraction, the beach is overcrowded with local tourists during weekends which indicates its growing popularity.

Location

Kelwa Beach is situated about 80 kilometres no

rth off Mumbai. It is also a 25 minute ride on an 8 seater Rickshaw from Palghar.around 34 kilometers from highway. Kelwa Beach is also connected by State Transport buses which make frequent trips from Palghar or Saphale & Kelwa Road Station.

Demographics

The most important and traditional mean of earning is cultivation of "Panmala"(Bettle leaves). The community which cultivates the mala's are popularly known as VADVALs (Person who cultivates vadis)
The residents of Kelwa beach are involved in the fishing industry due to the proximity of Satpati, Maharashtra's biggest fishing centre . Some people work in factories in the nearby industrial areas of Palghar and Tarapur.some people own the factories as well. Some people are also involved in the Tourism industry due to the growing popularity of the beach. Many restaurants and snack joints have come up near the beach to cater to the growing number of tourists.

Sh*tla Devi Temple

The Sh*tla Devi Temple, a Hindu temple is situated just besides the beach. It is believed that the two sons of Lord Ram, Luv and Kush grew here when Sita was in exile for the second time.

Forts

There are in all three forts on this beach. One is at the southern tip of the beach and is submerged in sea water during high tides. The smaller one, is located within the coniferous trees near the northern tip on the beach.

Three Mail/Express Trains given Halts at Boisar
For the convenience of passengers, Western Railway has
decided to provide stoppages to Kochuvli-Bikaner
Express, Gandhidham-Nagarcoil Express and Okha-
Ernakulam Express at Boisar in Mumbai Central
Division.
Accordingly, Train No. 16312Kochuvli-Bikaner Express
from 18th December, 2013;Train No. 16338Ernakulam-
Okha Express from 21st December, 2013 and Train No.
16336 Nagarcoil-Gandhidham Expressfrom 20th
December, 2013 will reach Boisar station at 00.06 hrs o­
n their nominated days.
Similarly, Train No. 16311Bikaner-Kochuvli Express,
Train No. 16337Okha-Ernakulam Express and Train No.
16335 Gandhidham-Nagarcoil Expresswill reach Boisar
station at 18.57 hrs on their nominated days. These
stoppages will be of 2 minutes.
These stoppages have been given on experimental basis
for a period of six months.

This was due to the lobbying by Malayalee associations
in and around Boisar who submitted a petition to Lok
Sabha member K. Suresh who in turn consulted with the
Railway board to have the new halts sanctioned.
