Purpose: Global replication of Integrated Aquaponics System (IAS) for water conservation and food security! NARDC is the acronym for Nanniode Aquaponics Research and Development Centre situated at Main Road, Nanniode PO, Palakkad, Kerala, India. Our primary focus has been to replicate what we have been doing for a decade – Integ

rated Aquaponics System (IAS). NARDC franchisees are known as CSAFs – Community Supported Agriculture Franchise. Our mission: We help understand Integrated Aquaponics System (IAS) technology to bring the next global agricultural revolution into the 21st century. Our Purpose: Global replication of Integrated Aquaponics System (IAS) for water conservation and food Security! Our goals:

NARDC is also into farming, R&D, training, consulting and franchising Integrated Aquaponics System (IAS). We also conduct test production and yield trials of heirloom, hybrid, and imported seed varieties in various Integrated Aquaponics System (IAS) settings. We also produce and sell live fish, fresh greens and poison-less vegetables and fruits to local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscribers; sales of heirloom and hybrid plant seeds, fish seedlings and apparatus. For several years, an entrepreneurial spirit, long-term vision and focus on innovation have characterized our company’s distinctive features and healthy growth. NARDC also works in partnership with governments, universities, NGOs, the private sector organizations, individual farmers and its franchisees to develop scalable Integrated Aquaponics System (IAS) solutions that have a real impact on poverty reduction, food security and ecosystem health.

“Current agriculture technologies fail to consider the underlying problems which are destroying agriculture. NARDC has the knowledge to implement and replicate Integrated Aquaponics System (IAS) in scale.” – VKN –

To know is to become. Know truth, and become truth. That is what the Self Transformation Movement is all about. Swamy VKN

Explore the four pillars of STM:

1. How to grow your own food? Healthy, poison-free food for yourself and your family.
2. How to run your own farm? Produce more healthy food with far fewer resources. End hunger through sustainable agriculture, community supported agriculture, and Integrated Aquaponics Systems (IAS) methods.
3. How to be your own doctor? Through natural living, Prakruti Jeevanam, and traditional medicine practices.
4. How to be your own master? Know yourself; who you actually are. Self-realization, self-actualization, self-transcendence.

Q: Why do we need radical changes in farming techniques? Why your work is so important?

(My) response.. share yours:

A. Globally two billion plus people are currently under severe water stress.
B. Industrial chemical agriculture is in deep trouble.
C. Food production is threatened on every conceivable front.
D. There is exponential soil loss.
E. Aquifer depletion.
F. Extreme droughts and floods.
G. Die-off of bees and other pollinators.
H. Ground and surface water contamination.
I. Desertification.
J. Increasingly frequent and severe extreme weather events.
K. Fossil energy depletion and dependance.
L. Exponential mass extinction in every critical trophic level of the biosphere.
M. Rapidly rising human population.

We have still got to eat and that means we will need to make the best use of every drop of water and resources that comes our way. We need a new model for sustainable agriculture.

The simple solution to all of the above-mentioned problems is Integrated Aquaponics Systems, IAS light farming *miracle*. Raise fish. Fish feeds the soil microbes. Microbes feed the plants. Plants feed us. Get educated. Go for IAS agri tech!

Here are brief notes of some of the sustainable agriculture pioneers in the world. Help build this list. Which names would you like to add to this. Please feel free to share either here or at DM.

William Frederick Gericke (1882-1970) American scientist who coined the term "hydroponics" and pioneered modern soilless cultivation techniques. Demonstrated large-scale hydroponic vegetable production in the 1930s. His work laid the foundation for commercial hydroponic farming worldwide.

Masanobu Fukuoka (1913-2008) Japanese farmer and philosopher who developed natural farming methods based on non-intervention. His "do-nothing" approach eliminates tillage, fertilizers, and pesticides, allowing nature to maintain soil health. Author of "The One-Straw Revolution," which inspired sustainable farming movements globally.

Hiralal Chaudhuri (1918-2001) Indian fisheries scientist known as the architect of India's Blue Revolution. Developed induced breeding techniques for Indian major carps, revolutionizing freshwater aquaculture. His breakthrough enabled mass production of fish seed, transforming fish farming across Asia.

James Sholto Douglas (1920-1994) British author and hydroponics researcher who popularized soilless cultivation methods. Wrote extensively on alternative agriculture and sustainable food production. His books made hydroponics accessible to home gardeners and small-scale farmers.

Bhaskar Save (1921-2015) Indian organic farming pioneer from Gujarat who transformed barren land into fertile farms using natural methods. Advocated for chemical-free agriculture and traditional farming wisdom. His coconut-based multi-crop system demonstrated the viability of natural farming.

Bill Mollison (1928-2016) Australian researcher and author who co-originated the permaculture concept. Designed integrated, sustainable agricultural systems that mimic natural ecosystems. Received the Right Livelihood Award in 1981 for his contributions to sustainable agriculture.

Allan Savory (1935-present) Zimbabwean ecologist who developed Holistic Management, using planned livestock grazing to restore grasslands and combat desertification. Founded the Savory Institute to promote regenerative land management. His methods have been applied to millions of acres worldwide.

G Nammalvar (1938-2013) Tamil agricultural scientist and organic farming advocate who promoted traditional farming methods and biodiversity conservation. Known as the "Bhoomi Putra" (Son of the Earth) in Tamil Nadu. Trained thousands of farmers in chemical-free agriculture practices.

Narayana Reddy (1938-2024) Indian organic farming pioneer from Telangana who promoted pesticide-free agriculture. Known for his terrace garden and advocacy for sustainable farming practices. His YouTube channel inspired millions to adopt organic gardening.

Cho Han Kyu (1940s-2025) Korean agricultural innovator who developed Korean Natural Farming (KNF), utilizing indigenous microorganisms and fermented plant materials to enhance soil fertility and plant health naturally. His methods spread across Asia and to organic farms worldwide.

Dr. Merle Jensen (1935-2016) American visionary horticulturist who advanced controlled environment agriculture and sand culture techniques. Contributed to hydroponics research and greenhouse production systems. Known as the "Father of Controlled Environment Agriculture" for his pioneering research.

Subash Palekar (1949-present) Indian agriculturist who developed Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF/SNF). His methods use locally available resources, eliminating the need for purchased inputs and reducing farmer debt. His techniques have been adopted by millions of farmers across India.

Dr. Mark R. McMurtry (1950s-present) North Carolina State University researcher who developed integrated aquaculture-vegetable production systems (iAVs), combining fish farming with hydroponic plant cultivation for resource efficiency. His work in the 1980s established the scientific foundation for modern aquaponics.

Dr. Michael B. Timmons American aquacultural engineer at Cornell University who pioneered recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). His research revolutionized intensive fish farming by creating closed-loop systems that minimize water use and environmental impact. Authored the definitive textbook on recirculating aquaculture systems technology.

Swamy VKN (1969-present) Indian aquaponics pioneer who adapted and promoted integrated fish-plant farming systems in India. Known as the "Father of Indian Aquaponics" for introducing and developing the integrated aquaponics systems (IAS) practice locally. Established numerous demonstration units to train farmers in sustainable aquaponics methods.
