Creating safer spaces for children starts with ensuring that those around them have the awareness and understanding to recognise when they may need support.
As part of the Safety First Campaign, SCAN-Goa, in collaboration with the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and with the support of Equiknox India, conducted a training session on Child Protection Laws & Safety Mechanisms in Goa for the secondary and higher secondary teachers of Sharada Mandir School, Miramar.
The session focused on understanding child sexual abuse, recognising different forms of abuse and helping teachers better understand the responsibilities involved in responding to situations concerning children. Through practical discussions, case-based illustrations and interactive learning, these important issues were brought into a more practical and relatable context.
The Safety First Campaign continues to take these conversations into schools, helping strengthen awareness and preparedness around the safety of women and children.
When those who work closely with children are better informed, they are better equipped to recognise concerns, respond appropriately and provide the support a child may need. Continuing these conversations is an important step towards creating safer spaces for every child.
