On the occasion of the International Day of Light, the Department of Physics organized a special program that began with the ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Monjurul Hoque, Principal. Patharkandi college. The event was coordinated by Dr. Dimpi Paul, Assistant Professor of Physics, with active participation from students of higher secondary (XI) and the 6th semester, who contributed through photography and videography. A wall magazine themed *Light and Technology* was prepared by the 6th semester students, was formally released by Principal Dr. Manjurul Hoque and IQAC Coordinator Imam Uddin Ansari Sir. Dr. Dimpi Paul also delivered a talk highlighting the importance of the celebration, emphasizing the role of light in science, technology, and everyday life. The program was hosted by Ms Ankita Sharma and Ms. Tahmida students from department of physics, 6th semester.

On the occasion of Chatra Divas, Patharkandi College organized a programme that began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Monjurul Hoque, Principal of Patharkandi College, followed by the faculty members. Dr. Derhasad Basumatary from the Department of Physics highlighted the life and works of Upendra Nath Brahma and emphasized his contributions. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the National Anthem. About 150 students were attended in the program.

A Quiz and Debate Competition was successfully organized on 23rd March 2026 by the Quiz and Debate Cell in association with the IQAC of Patharkandi College on the theme “Importance of Voting and Role of Youth in Democracy.”The programme was conducted under the guidance of the SVEEP Cell of the Office of the District Commissioner, Sribhumi.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Monjurul Hoque, Principal of Patharkandi College. The programme was jointly organized and conducted by Dr. Satarupa Deb (Convenor), Dr. Chalikuzzaman (Member), and Mr. Istiaque Hussain (Member).

The primary objective of the competition was to create awareness among young voters regarding the significance of voting in a democratic system. Dr. Md. Imam Uddin Ansari, IQAC Coordinator, and Mr. Istiaque Hussain Mazumder, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, served as judges for the debate competition.

Students participated enthusiastically in both the quiz and debate sessions, expressing their views with confidence and insight. In the debate competition, Sabira Begum (4th Semester) and Jiyarul Hoque (2nd Semester), who spoke in favor of the motion, were declared winners. In the quiz competition, the winners were Sagar Paul (6th Semester), Iqbal Tanveer (H.S. 1st Year), and Jiyarul Hoque (2nd Semester).

The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes, followed by a vote of thanks.

Today we had the honour of welcoming our proud alumna Lihoy Chorei, APS, currently serving as Deputy Superintendent of Police, Morigaon, Assam, to Patharkandi College.

Lihoy Chorei was a student of the 1996–1999 batch, and her visit today took her down the nostalgic memory lane of her college days. She spent some time interacting warmly with the teaching and non-teaching staff members, sharing memories and experiences from her time as a student.

She expressed her immense happiness and pride in witnessing the remarkable development and progress of the college over the years, and conveyed her heartfelt best wishes for the continued success and growth of Patharkandi College in the days ahead.

During the interaction, she also fondly recalled the invaluable contribution of Prof. Quomrul Hoque in shaping her life. Coming from a humble background, she shared how Quomrul Sir’s guidance, encouragement, and support played a crucial role in helping her overcome challenges and achieve success in her career.

Her inspiring journey from a student of Patharkandi College to a distinguished officer in the Assam Police Service is a matter of great pride for our institution.

We wish Lihoy Chorei continued success and strength in her service to the nation.

Happy to share the news that, Mr. Rahul Dasgupta, a well-wisher of Patharkandi college has donated another book to our Patharkandi College library, like he promised to contribute.
We are blessed to have such persistent assistance from Mr. Dasgupta. Patharkandi college community thanks him for his book donation initiative.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Women Cell of Patharkandi College, in collaboration with the Yuva Tourism Club, organized an awareness program on health, hygiene, and sanitation on 6th March 2026. The initiative aimed to promote healthy practices among students and the community, with special focus on adolescent health and women’s hygiene. Faculty members of women cell and student volunteers conducted interactive talks on hygiene, nutrition, and sanitation followed by distribution of Iron tablet to hostel students and Sanitary napkins were provided to female students and women in Rajbari village to encourage menstrual hygiene. The program extended beyond the college campus to Rajbari, the adopted village of Patharkandi College, ensuring inclusivity and outreach.

National Science Day was organized with this year’s theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat by Science Stream.” The convener of the program was Dr. Dimpi Paul, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, and the coordinator was Dr. Satarupa Deb, Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology. Students from each department presented their knowledge related to science, technology, and innovation, highlighting the contributions of women in these fields. The program also featured an extempore speech and a quiz competition.
