The original name of Kattamuru is Katnam Ooru.

Katnam means dowry and Ooru means Village. The Maharaja of the Vatsavayi Dynasty of Padmapuram Samsthanam (Peddapuram) gifted this village to Lord kesava Pattabhi Rama swamy as a dowry by considering goddess Lakshmi as his daughter. This village formed 450 years back. It was mentioned in Rajasekhara Charitamu.
