Minority Department of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Lodges Complaint Against Derogatory Remarks on Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)

Under the guidance of Chairman Wasim Khan, the Minority Department of the Goa Congress has continued its campaign against the alleged derogatory remarks made by Ms. Nazia Ilahi Khan against Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

Today, a formal complaint was submitted at Verna Police Station by Nazir Sabhal, Vice Chairman, South Goa District Minority Department. He was accompanied by Mainuddin Khan (Vice Chairman, GPCC Minority Department), Anwar G Naroo (South Goa District Chairman, Minority Department), and other members of the Minority Department.

The Minority Department strongly condemns every attempt to insult any religion or hurt the religious sentiments of any community. Such statements have no place in a peaceful and democratic society and have the potential to disturb communal harmony.

The complaint requests the concerned authorities to conduct a fair and thorough investigation and take appropriate legal action in accordance with the law. The Department believes that no individual should be permitted to make statements that promote hatred or create social discord.

The Minority Department also wishes to make it clear that it will continue to pursue all lawful and democratic remedies available until appropriate action is taken in this matter. If necessary, further complaints and legal representations will be submitted before the competent authorities.

The Department appeals to all citizens to uphold mutual respect, maintain communal harmony, and exercise responsibility while expressing their views.

A significant meeting of the Minority Department was held today at the South Goa District Congress Committee Office under the leadership of South Goa District Minority Chairman Anwar G Naroo.

The meeting was attended by Vice Chairmen Mainuddin Khan and Valerian Richard Fernandes, along with Minority Block Chairmen from various constituencies. Detailed discussions were held on strengthening the organization at the booth level, expanding the party’s outreach within the minority community, and strategizing for the 2027 Goa Assembly Elections.

All office bearers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the organization and taking the ideals and vision of the Indian National Congress to every section of society.

Today, on behalf of the Goa Congress Minority Department, Vice Chairman Valerian Richard Fernandes, North Goa District Minority President Khan, and Tivim Block President Minority leaders Lobo visited the residence of late Samuel Garvyn De Braganca and later approached the Mapusa Police Station seeking justice and a fair investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.

The allegations that a young man was made to remain at the police station for an extended period and subsequently lost his life have raised serious concerns among the public. Such incidents, if found to involve negligence or misconduct, can severely damage the trust and confidence that citizens place in law enforcement agencies.

We stand with the bereaved family in this difficult time and demand a transparent, impartial, and time-bound inquiry so that the truth comes to light and justice is delivered. Accountability and respect for human dignity must remain the foundation of every institution entrusted with public service.

Justice delayed is justice denied.
