This year marks the 106th anniversary of the Armistice of 11 November 1918. It will pay tribute to all the civilians and servicemen who died for France.

This morning, the ceremony, before a gathering of veterans and the French community, marked the end of hostilities in the Great War in Europe.

At a time when tensions are rising in the Middle East, and Ukraine is fighting to repel the invader and preserve democracy, this ceremony will be an opportunity to recall the importance of the strategic partnership between France and India.

The commemoration at the Monument aux Morts in Pondicherry began at 8.30 a.m. in the presence of Shri. A. Kulothungan, I.A.S., Dictrict Collector, elected representatives of French citizens living abroad and ex-servicemen's associations.

The large audience was moved by the French International School of Pondicherry choir, which sang the French and Indian anthems.
