• North Korea declared that it had detonated its first hydrogen bomb.
• The maximum characters allowed in a Tweet are 140. Twitter is exploring increasing its limits on text to as many as 1000.
• The union cabinet approves closure of HMT Watches. Two unviable units of the public sector company, HMT Chinar watches and HMT Bearings, are also to be shut down.
• Emission control: India to go straight to BS – VI from 2020. (leapfrog from Bharat Stage-IV to BS-VI)
• Road Transport & Highways minister Nitin Gadkari.
• PAN Card is mandatory for purchases over Rs.2 lakhs at Jewellery shop. Jewellers want to increase the limit to Rs.10 lakh.

• Mumbai school cricketer Pranav Dhanwade became the first player in the world to score 1000 runs (1009 runs not out off 323 balls) in a single innings, surpassing a 117 year old record held by AEJ Collin’s who scored 628 in 1899.
Dhanwade is a student of class 10 of KC Gandhi school, Kalyan.
