District Police Poonch Secures Preventive Detention of Notorious Drug Peddler Under PIT-NDPS Act

Poonch, May 26, 2026:

In a major crackdown against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, District Police Poonch has successfully secured a preventive detention order under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 1988 against a notorious drug peddler identified as Zakir Hussain S/o Mohammad Lateef R/o Village Tain Mankote, Tehsil Mankote, District Poonch.

The preventive detention order was issued by the competent authority for repeated involvement of the accused in narcotics-related activities and illicit drug trafficking in the area.

The accused had allegedly been actively involved in the illegal trade of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for a considerable period, posing a grave threat to public safety, social harmony, and especially to the youth of the district. Despite earlier legal action and registration of criminal cases against him, the individual reportedly continued his unlawful activities, thereby compelling authorities to invoke stringent preventive measures under the PIT-NDPS Act.

Following a meticulous examination of records, material evidence, case history, and recommendations submitted by District Police Poonch, the competent authority approved the preventive detention in order to effectively prevent the accused from further engaging in illicit trafficking of narcotic substances.

Acting swiftly on the detention warrant, District Police Poonch executed the order in accordance with law and lodged the accused in jail under preventive detention provisions.

This action reflects the firm resolve and unwavering commitment of District Police Poonch towards its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and narcotics trafficking. The police remain steadfast in their mission to dismantle drug networks and safeguard society from the devastating impact of narcotics.

District Police Poonch once again appeals to the general public, particularly the youth, parents, teachers, and community leaders, to actively cooperate with the police by sharing information regarding drug peddling and substance abuse so that the collective objective of a Drug-Free Poonch and Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir can be achieved successfully.
