Organ Donation Pledge Drive at CWPRS under “Jug Jug Jiyo Abhiyan”

The Central Water and Power Research Station , Pune organized an Organ Donation Pledge Drive under the nationwide “Jug Jug Jiyo Abhiyan” on 3 August 2026, in support of the Government of India's initiative to promote awareness on voluntary organ and tissue donation.

The Organ Donation Pledge was administered by Dr. Selva Balan, Director, CWPRS, encouraging officers and staff members to pledge their organs and tissues as a life-saving gift to those in need.

During the programme, participants were sensitized to the importance of organ donation and its potential to save lives while creating a lasting legacy of compassion. Officers and staff were also advised to register their pledge on the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) portal as part of the national campaign.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation, reaffirming CWPRS's commitment to social responsibility and public awareness.

CWPRS has successfully tested an air vent valve intended for use as a mounting in marine applications. The testing was carried out under the NABL-accredited ISO/IEC 17025:2017 scope for the parameters of flow rate and head loss across the element at the Gravimetric Flow Calibration Laboratory, CWPRS, Pune. The testing program was initiated by HMCI team along with all senior scientists under the guidance of Dr K Kumar S. E and group head. This testing is critical for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of fuel, water, and chemical storage tanks, where maintaining pressure balance and structural stability is essential. The air vent valve was tested for flow rates of up to 1,000 cubic metres per hour (m³/h). CWPRS achieving yet another high by its moto service through Research.

Review Meeting on Lakhwar MPP (330 MW), Uttarakhand

A review meeting on the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project (330 MW), Uttarakhand, was held in New Delhi, 31/07/2026 under the joint chairmanship of the Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD&GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the Chief Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand.
CWPRS was represented by its Director, who apprised the meeting of the progress of the Reservoir Sedimentation Studies being carried out for the Lakhwar project.
Following the meeting, discussions were held with UJVNL officials regarding other ongoing studies of the Lakhwar Project at CWPRS, with the Director, CWPRS, assuring full cooperation for future collaborative work.

As per the directives given by MoJS, in-order to take up AI applications in Water Resource Sector, Director CWPRS called upon Sh. K Mohammed Y Safirilla (IAS) Director, National AI Mission MeitY at Electronics Niketan New Delhi on 31 July 26. Ms. Shikha Dahiya, Joint Director also participated in the meeting.
Discussion were held to find the modalities to train CWPRS officials on AI tools. Few critical applications such as water quality prediction model, flood prediction model and sedimentation process mode development were also identified . Director CWPRS greeted Director MeitY, with a CWPRS momentoe and a coffee table book which show cases major R&D works done at CWPRS.
Another joint collaboration initiate by CWPRS under the guidance of MoJS to address the most important issues of water resources sector using AI.

Chairman, CWC, Sh. D.S. Chaskar, Chairman, Mahadayi PRAWAH Committee, and senior officials of the IT Wing of CWC held discussions with the Director, CWPRS, on 31/07/2026 at Sewa Bhavan, New Delhi, regarding the AI digital toolkit development work undertaken by CWPRS. Discussions were also held to identify the integrity and quality of the data, its security, and management in order to ensure the prediction models generated from these data are reliable.
The interaction also facilitated the exchange of technical inputs for further strengthening the AI-driven digital initiatives being undertaken by CWPRS.

The 32nd Meeting of the BIS WRD 01 Sectional Committee was held under the chairmanship of the Director, CWPRS, at Manak Bhawan, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), New Delhi, on 30 July 2026.
The meeting reviewed the status of BIS standards and the progress of activities under ISO/TC 113. The Chairman emphasized the need for the timely review and revision of standards to ensure their continued relevance in addressing present-day technical requirements and stakeholder expectations.
He also encouraged all members of the WRD 01 Sectional Committee to actively participate in the revision and development of BIS standards, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in strengthening the national standardization framework for the water resources sector.
CWPRS remains committed to advancing excellence in standardization through technical leadership, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

Major General Naveen Kumar Thapliyal, Commandant, Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune, along with senior officials, visited the Central Water and Power Research Station CWPRS, Pune, on 29 July 2026 and held discussions with Dr. M. Selva Balan, Director, CWPRS and senior scientists on strengthening collaboration between the two institutions.

The discussions focused on a proposed Memorandum of Understanding to promote collaborative research, knowledge exchange and technical cooperation in emerging technology domains of mutual interest. The broad framework and scope of the proposed partnership were also discussed.

The delegation visited CWPRS’s advanced physical modelling, testing and laboratory facilities and gained an overview of the Institute’s research capabilities.

The visit concluded with a tree plantation programme on the CWPRS campus, symbolising the shared commitment of both institutions to sustainability and a greener future.

On the invitation of Shri Rahil Javir, IAS, District Commissioner, Dheemaji, Assam, and at the request of the Chief Engineer, North Eastern Railways, Director, CWPRS, and Shri P. S. Kunjeer, Scientist-E, visited the flood-affected areas of the Brahmaputra during 21–22 July 2026 to assess flood-related challenges and explore scientific solutions for flood risk management.

During the field visit, the CWPRS team, along with officials from the Water Resources Department (WRD), Dhemaji, inspected the Semen River, where a railway bridge was severely damaged during the recent floods. The visit provided first-hand insights into the flood impacts, river behaviour, and infrastructure vulnerabilities in one of Assam's most flood-prone districts.

The District Administration sought the technical support of CWPRS in identifying suitable scientific and technological interventions for flood forecasting, flash flood prediction, and integrated flood management, recognizing the growing challenges posed by increasingly frequent extreme weather events.

CWPRS remains committed to supporting state governments and local authorities through advanced hydraulic modelling, river engineering, flood forecasting, and science-based decision support to enhance disaster resilience and protect critical infrastructure.
