Gaja Uddhar Besha (custom/ dress up )( Saving the Elephant ЁЯРШ from crocodile ЁЯРК Attire ) :
on the occasion of Holy Magh Purnima tithi ,(fullmoon day) Mahaprabhu Jagannath will be adorned with Gaja Udhharana Besha.

after Madhyanna Dhupa (afternoon Bhog), Besha will be conducted . During that time Mahaprabhu will be adorned with Gaja Udhharana Besha.
In this attire both Jagannatha and Lord Balabhadra are four handed.Jagannatha sits on Garuda and holds Shankha Chakra Gada Padma, and Sridevi (Mahalakhmi) on his thigh.Balabhadra holds Shankha Chakra Hala and Mushala and sits as Basudev in Padmasana. Maa Subhadra has two hands and she holds a lotus in one hand and stands in a cross legged position. After Sandhya Dhupa evening Bhog )A elephant figure which is trying to escape a crocodile's hold is kept near Jagannath. Another elephant figure which holds a lotus in praying posture is kept near Lord Balabhadra.The able craftsmen take 15 days to prepare this attire.
Gaja Uddharana Besha

This Besha depicts an epic story as
to how Lord Bishnu saved a helpless elephant
from the clutches of a crocodile. In the time of
yore an elephant was attacked by a ferocious
crocodile. Finding no other way to save his life,
this animal implored the mercy of Bishnu. Its
sincere prayers immediately moved Bishnu to
compassion and He hurled His disc to cut the
attacking alligator into pieces.
Shree Jagannatha, who is identified with
Bishnu, wears this Besha to inspire a sense of
devotion to the grace of God.

Any Saturday or Wednesday between the
new moon day of the month of Magha and Basanta Panchami is chosen for the Padma Besha. It is made during the тАШBada SingharaтАЩ (night dress up) at night and the deities remain with the Besha throughout the night. This Besha takes place to perpetuate the legendary memory of a devotee, who had brought the lotus flowers from a very long distance to decorate the Deities
Mahaprabhu Jagannath is the source of many different veshas(english looks). It is said that the lord presents himself to the devotee in the way the devotee finds delight in seeing Him.

The Paush Purnima Debabhiseka Rituals is conducted inside Jagannath temple.
Last night before Chandanlagi,Garabadu placed 87 water pots and 21 Ghee copper vessels. 35 pots of water on Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra had shower with 33 pots of water, Devi Subhadra with 22 pots of water and Lord Sudarshan took bath with 18 pots of water.vessels pots total to 108 in the Bhog mandap Ghar (room) .

Today when the Sakala Dhupa (morning time bhog) rituals were going on,Homa (Yagya) is done. Mahaprabhu Jagannath and Mahasnana (special bath )Puja is arranged.The pots kept last night are brought carefully by Garabadu Sevaks in a procession.After that Khaikora Bhog (sweet chira/Flattened rice ) , coconut laddu & banana is offered and Abhisek Ritual is done.After that Besha is done.

The Makara Chaula (new Rice) is taken 7 times around the temple in a procession called the Makar Bedha. After offering the morning bhog to the Lord, today extra Makar bhog
Makar Chaula with coconut,pure ghee, sweets, spices and milk for the Lord.

Makar Chaaula, a special kind of sweet dish prepared with newly harvested rice, jaggery, grated coconut, banana, chenna ( cheese ), Khua, various fruits, dry fruit and milk .

Sevak tie a cloth around their mouth and take the MakarChaula around the temple in a procession.

Today Makar Sankranthi / Uttarayan Yatra Makar Chaurashi besh (dress up )of Mahaprabhu Jagannath

Makar Sankranti in Puri Jagannath temple is celebrated with great devotion and all rituals are being performed independently since a very long time. The rituals start with Mangal Aarti , the prasad to the Lord, Phuta Paharana and the triad wear Makar Chula ( a type of Head-gear). The Makara Chaula (Rice) is taken around the temple in a procession called the Makar Bedha. After offering the morning dhupa to the Lord, comes the Jatrangi Mahasnana (a special bath) to the God and the triad are dressed in new clothes and adorned with beautiful jewellery and 6 types of ornaments. In a huge procession , the Bhoga / Offerings are brought infront Mahaprabhu by Talichaa Pradhani sebayata . After this the afternoon rituals commence. After the Mudirasta prasad, the Pujapanda completes the afternoon aarti and prays with 16 methods to appease the Lord. After tera is tied infront Mahaprabhu , the inner sanctum is cleaned

The Suar (Jagannath temple chef )makes the Makar Chaula with coconut,pure ghee, sweets, spices and milk for the Lord.

Shri Jagannath have a lot of devotees at his service who perform a lot of different rituals and offer services to the Lord in their strength.

Then the MahaBhoi brings milk, gudiya-shakara(famous Shri mandira delicacy), phena(a type of sweet), hadapa nayak nali paan(a type of paan) and chachi paan. Once this is presented to the Lord , the Mudirasta presents this as offering to the Lord. Afterwards, the Puja Pandas finish the offering to the Lord by Panchaupachara.

Once the bhog offering is over, Puja pandas( head Mandir priests) , Patimahapatra and Mudirasta complete the aarti. On this day 84 types of Bhoga are offered to Mahaprabhu . These bhoga are Makar Chaurashi bhoga .

Darshan of Nabanka bhesha of Srijagannath mahaprabhu. Besha specially designed Hala Mushala, Shankha Chakra,Tadagi and Kundala etc. flower ornaments used during this Besha are more in number than usual and all of them are made with Marigold Flowers.The hat-like conical ornament called Chula is designed using Tulsi and Marigold.

On every Amavasya day, Amavasya Narayan after getting Agyan mala (order ) from Lord Jagannath goes to Mahodadhi (Sea) for a special bath ritual.
After the ritual , Amavasya Narayan visits Jambeswara Temple ( Shiva temple) Then return to the Jagannath temple .
