RAJKUMAR PERIASAMY is a celebrated writer-director whose cinema brings together scale, emotional depth and deeply human storytelling. He made his directorial debut with Rangoon in 2017, before embarking on the five-year journey that culminated in Amaran — the acclaimed biographical drama inspired by the life and sacrifice of Ashoka Chakra recipient Major Mukund Varadarajan.
With Amaran, Rajkumar looked beyond the battlefield to explore courage, duty, love, family and the human cost of service. His ability to balance research, performances, action and emotional intimacy earned him the Best Director honour at the 72nd National Film Awards, along with a joint Filmfare Award for Best Director, Tamil. Amaran also won National Film Awards for Best Editing and Best Background Music.
His upcoming work includes OM Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood, starring Dhanush, Mammootty and Sai Pallavi.
For the Sri Sathya Sai Short Film Festival, Rajkumar brings a director’s eye for authenticity, emotional architecture and the ability of cinema to turn values such as courage, sacrifice and service into experiences that stay with an audience.

AMIT RAI is a writer-director whose cinema has consistently explored questions of conscience, social responsibility, dignity and human compassion. His directorial debut, Road to Sangam, told the story of a devout Muslim mechanic entrusted with restoring an engine that once carried Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes, using a deeply personal story to explore faith, communal harmony and moral responsibility.
The film earned Rai the Gollapudi Srinivas Award for Best Debutant Director as well as an Audience Choice Award at the Mumbai International Film Festival.
After a long gap from feature filmmaking, Rai returned with OMG 2, which used humour and mainstream storytelling to engage with the importance of responsible s*x education and the wellbeing of young people. The film earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Story in 2024.
His latest film, Ohh My Dog, continues his belief that a meaningful story can and should reach a wide audience. In choosing the film over larger star-driven projects, Rai has spoken about placing the story above stars, studios and budgets.
For our festival, he brings a valuable understanding of how social purpose can become compelling cinema without losing its emotional or popular appeal.

NASIR ABDULLAH is a veteran actor and model whose journey across theatre, advertising, cinema, television and digital entertainment spans more than three decades. His acting journey began on stage with Pearl Padamsee’s Mischief Mania in 1992, followed by his film debut in Dil Aashna Hai.
Over the years, he has brought his distinctive presence to films including Mitr, My Friend, Main Hoon Na, Page 3, Taxi No. 9211, Traffic Signal, Om Shanti Om and Gandhi to Hi**er, alongside extensive work in television and digital entertainment.
Beyond his professional journey, Nasir brings something particularly meaningful to this festival a personal and deeply reflective connection with Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In the official Sri Sathya Sai Media Centre’s Life Experiences with Sri Sathya Sai series, he has spoken about Bhagawan’s influence on his life, outlook and spiritual journey.
As a performer, he brings an instinctive understanding of character, expression and emotional truth; as someone whose life has been touched by Sai, he brings a personal perspective on love, compassion, faith and service.

SHASHILAL K. NAIR is a veteran filmmaker and producer whose career reflects a rare breadth of experience across socially conscious cinema, family drama and mainstream entertainment. He began his career as an assistant on films including Shankarabharanam, Sargam and Kaam Chor, before making his directorial debut with Bahu Ki Awaaz in 1985.
Bahu Ki Awaaz was a powerful early statement on dowry and bride-burning, establishing Nair’s interest in stories rooted in social realities. He went on to direct films including Karamdaata, Parivaar, Falak, Kroadh, Angaar, Grahan, One 2 Ka 4 and Ek Chhotisi Love Story, working with leading actors across generations.
His 1992 film Angaar earned him the National Film Award for Best Special Effects for its convincing and technically ambitious miniature work, recognising not only storytelling ambition but also the craft behind bringing that vision to screen.
With decades of experience behind the camera, Nair brings to the Grand Jury an appreciation of the complete filmmaking process, from concept and performance to visual storytelling, technical craft and the ability to communicate a meaningful idea with conviction.

JUHI CHATURVEDI is one of contemporary Indian cinema’s most distinctive screenwriters, celebrated for finding extraordinary stories in the rhythms, contradictions and relationships of everyday life. Before entering cinema, she built a successful career in advertising, bringing with her a sharp eye for human behaviour and an instinct for memorable, authentic voices.
Her collaborations with director Shoojit Sircar have produced some of Hindi cinema’s most distinctive films, Vicky Donor, Piku, October and Gulabo Sitabo. From the unconventional premise of Vicky Donor to the intimate family dynamics of Piku and the quiet compassion at the heart of October, her writing consistently explores sensitive subjects without becoming preachy.
For Piku, Juhi received National Film Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Dialogues, in addition to the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay. She also won the Filmfare Award for Best Story for Vicky Donor and Best Dialogue for Gulabo Sitabo.
Her greatest strength lies in making audiences care, allowing emotion, humour and humanity to emerge naturally through character and dialogue.
