Press Release / Statement

The Sikkim Government Nurses Welfare Association strongly condemns the verbal and physical assault on a doctor at Dentam PHC, Gyalshing District, on 5th September 2025.

Such incidents of violence against healthcare professionals are deeply unacceptable and create fear and insecurity among those who dedicate their lives to serving the community. The Association stands in full solidarity with the affected doctor and calls upon the authorities to take strict and immediate action against the culprits to ensure safety and dignity of all healthcare workers.

We appeal to the public to extend cooperation and respect towards medical professionals, as a safe working environment is essential for delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Sikkim.

Respected Honorable Health Minister Sir,

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words toward the health fraternity. Your recognition of our efforts means a great deal, especially in these challenging times. It is truly the need of the hour, as many in our profession are striving tirelessly to serve patients to the best of our abilities.

However, we are increasingly facing a disheartening challenge—the misuse of social media by individuals who may not fully understand the complexities of healthcare. This has led to unwarranted criticism and demotivation for many of us who are committed to providing the best care possible. These baseless attacks not only harm our morale but also risk eroding the trust between healthcare professionals and the public.

We sincerely appreciate your support and request that more efforts be made to raise awareness about the importance of trusting and respecting the healthcare community. Together, we can continue to serve patients with compassion and dedication.
