राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान सिक्किम में स्वतंत्रता दिवस अत्यंत उत्साह एवं गर्व के साथ मनाया गया। इस शुभ अवसर पर संस्थान के निदेशक प्रो. महेश चंद्र गोविल ने ध्वजारोहण किया। समारोह में छात्र, संकाय सदस्य एवं कर्मचारीगण उपस्थित रहें । छात्रों ने अपनी रचनात्मक कला के माध्यम से देशभक्ति की भावना का सुंदर प्रदर्शन किया।

निदेशक महोदय ने ‘विकसित भारत’ के निर्माण में योगदान देने के प्रति संस्थान की दृढ़ प्रतिबद्धता को दोहराया। उन्होंने युवा शक्ति को अपनी नवाचारी एवं तकनीकी क्षमताओं के साथ आगे आने तथा भारत को नई ऊँचाइयों पर पहुँचाने के लिए प्रेरित किया।

National Institute of Technology Sikkim has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join the North Eastern Science and Technology (NEST) Cluster as a spoke institute.

Based at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the NEST Cluster aims to promote research, innovation, and skill development in India’s North-Eastern region. The project was approved on 4 July 2025 under the schemes of the North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, at a cost of ₹22.98 crore. It is being implemented by IIT Guwahati over a period of five years.

Dr. Achintesh Narayan Biswas, Dean of Alumni, Industry and International Affairs at the National Institute of Technology Sikkim, has affirmed the institute’s strong commitment to research excellence. Ongoing research work at NIT Sikkim includes the sustainable utilization of agricultural and industrial waste. Notably, researchers Sumit Kumar, Neha Thakur, and Priyanka Sharma are examining the application of these wastes in civil engineering. Students of the institute will also participate in the hackathon to be held at IIT Guwahati.

Sharing his experience, NIT Sikkim student Rahul Kumar Raj said that such programmes provide experience of research and its real-life applications. He thanked NIT Sikkim Director Professor Mahesh Chandra Govil and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in such a programme. A 13-member student team, along with Dr. Achintesh Narayan Biswas, Dr. Joy Paul, and Sumit Kumar, will take part in the conclave being held from 10 to 12 August.

National Institute of Technology Sikkim Organises “Nasha-Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” under Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim organised a significant programme under the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, through the MY Bharat platform. The special theme of the event was “Nasha-Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” (Drug-Free Youth for Developed India).

The programme was organised in alignment with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for a developed, self-reliant and drug-free India by 2047. Its primary objective was to create awareness among the youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to empower them as ambassadors of a drug-free India.

Faculty members, staff and students of NIT Sikkim actively participated in the programme. On this occasion, Ms. Bhumika Chhetri delivered an expert lecture. Ms. Bhumika Chhetri has been actively contributing as the ‘Youth Icon’ of Sikkim, nominated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

In his message, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, Director, NIT Sikkim, stated:
“Drug-free youth form the foundation of a developed India. NIT Sikkim is a drug-free campus. We inspire our students not only to achieve excellence in technical education but also to become responsible citizens and agents of positive change in society. This programme is our small yet significant contribution towards realising the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. I urge all participants to spread the message of a drug-free life among their families, friends and society.”

The event was attended by Dr. Vishal Vishnoi, Nodal Officer of MY Bharat; Dr. Anjan Kumar Ray, Dean, Faculty Welfare; and other Deans and Heads of Departments.

The programme commenced with the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ and concluded with the national anthem.

NIT Sikkim joins the national call for a substance-free youth!

Today, the Institute proudly hosted the "Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan" program. Faculty, staff, and students came together for a meaningful virtual interaction with the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India as part of this important national initiative.

The Director of NIT Sikkim also addressed the gathering, underscoring the critical need to build a healthy, aware, and empowered young generation free from substance abuse , a vital step toward realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

Together, we reaffirm our commitment to a Nasha Mukt Yuva and a stronger, progressive India.

NIT Sikkim is pleased to announce that it will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the North East Science and Technology (NEST) Cluster, Guwahati, during OCTAVATE 2026, the flagship Technology Conclave of the NEST Cluster, to be held from 10–12 August 2026 at IIT Guwahati.

The collaboration aims to strengthen research, innovation, and academic partnerships across the North Eastern Region. OCTAVATE 2026 offers an excellent platform for faculty members, researchers, innovators, and students to participate in technical sessions, exhibitions, innovation challenges, and hackathons.
