Agriculture is the main occupation of the people, the average family Helding being three acres. Dhanaji Nana alias Dadasaheb Chaudhari was as Police Inspector who resigned the important post and joined the Freedom struggle under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. Thereafter the tiny village contributed as many as seventy-five Satyagrahis, five of them women, to the Civil Disobedience Movement of 19
32. Three hundred workers of this village worked day and night during the Faizpur Session of the Indian National Congress (1936), the first to be held in rural area, and helped make it a success. MAHATMA GANDHI, Sardar Patel and Vinobaji were among the leaders who visited Khiroda and inspired the workers in social reconstruction. KHIRODA attained local self-government in 1941, with the establishment of its Grampanchayat. But it already had its Gram Mandal, which still continues to function with about a hundred workers. THE ENTRRANCE GATE, of which Khiroda is very proud, is an imposing three-storied structure. It houses a permanent Exhibition and Information Centre, the village Hall and the office of the Grampanchayat. On the top of it is the water tank which supplies pipe water to the village. THE GRAM-LAXMI Centre is a unique feature of the village, with public latrines & gas-plants and health-cum-cultural centres.
