Facing a CBI preliminary inquiry in a disproportionate assets case, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh faced a major embarrassment as an 18-member team of CBI officials raided his residence Holly Lodge, Shimla this morning.
The CBI team, which is understood to have also had ED officials, reached Virbhadra’s private residence near Jakhu this morning. The officials entered Virbhadra’s residence in five vehicles, with Chandigarh and Punjab registration numbers. Singh and his family members were not at home when the team reached. They were out for a family function at a local temple.

The BJP on Saturday demanded resignation of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his Uttarakhand counterpart Harish Rawat, who, the party claimed, were involved in graft cases. There is concrete evidence against Singh and Rawat confirming their involvement in corruption cases, BJP national spokesperson Tarun Chugh said here. Chugh also accused Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul of protecting them. He said Congress was making false allegations against Union Minister Sushma Swaraj and BJP chief ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Vasundhara Raje “with out any evidence against them”. “Congress is holding Parliament to ransom” and not letting it function. BJP is ready for a debate on “anything and everything”, he asserted.

Encroachment issue in HP, BJP demands white paper

SHIMLA: Issue of removing encroachment from forest land has caused widespread public anger with hundreds of people holding a protest rally in Rohru town of Shimla district, while opposition BJP demanding that Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh led state government should release white paper on the issue.

Senior BJP leader and former horticulture minister Narendre Bragta said that state government tell the people about steps taken by it to deal with the situation arising following the high court order to remove the encroachments from forest land. He said that if state government would fail to take legal course on the issue then BJP would move Supreme Court as only the small and marginal farmers are being affected because of court order.

Addressing media persons in Shimla on Wednesday, Bragta demanded that government should bring an ordinance to stop the felling of apple trees and removal and water and electricity connection from the encroached areas. He said that following high court orders the very existence of farmers and growers is under threat.

He alleged that on the issue, state government has failed to use the available option with it. He said that government is trying to mislead the people on the issue. He said that government has even failed to file a review petition, approach Supreme court or bring ordinance.

He said that if government would bring an ordinance to provide relief to the farmers then BJP would extend open support to it inside the assembly.

रिकांगपिओ — जिला में अचानक तेज बारिश होने से नदी-नालों का जलस्तर बढ़ गया है। बुधवार को हुई तेज बारिश के बाद नदी-नालों का जलस्तर बढऩे से कई गांव का सिंचाई कूहल सहित बागीचों को भारी नुकसान हुआ, वहीं कई घरों में भी पानी घुसने की खबर मिली। तेज बारिश से कानम गांव के साथ कानम नाला का जलस्तर बढ़ गया, जिससे कानम, लबरंग गांव के बागीचों के लिए बनाई गई सिंचाई कूहल पूरी तरह टूट गई है। प्रधान कानम हीरा नेगी व प्रधान लबरंग ईश्वर नेगी ने कहा कि कानम नाला में बाढ़ आने से न केवल सिंचाई कूहल पूरी तरह टूट गई है बल्कि कानम संपर्क मार्ग को भी नुकसान पहुंचा, वहीं कानम गांव के छात्रों को कानम स्कूल के जाने के लिए लगाया लकड़ी का पूल भी बह गया है। इसी तरह मूरंग के सुसरा क्षेत्र में भी लोक निर्माण विभाग द्वारा सड़क के नीचे फेंकी गई मिट्टी का मलबा बारिश में कई घरों में घुस गया। सुसरा क्षेत्र के ग्रामीणों ने कहा कि लोक निर्माण विभाग ने सड़क से निकले मलबे को सड़क के नीचे फेंक दिया गया है, जिससे तेज बारिश के बाद पूरा मलबा घरों में घुसने का खतरा बना हुआ है। इस बारे कई बार विभाग को शिकायत भी की गई, मगर अब तक कोई कार्रवाई नहीं की गई है।
