Remembering Dr. Manmohan Singh (1932–2024)
Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, was a towering figure in Indian politics and economics, whose legacy will be remembered for generations. Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah (now in Pakistan), Dr. Singh rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most respected leaders of modern India.
An acclaimed economist, Dr. Singh played a pivotal role in shaping India’s economic reforms. As the Finance Minister (1991–1996), he was the architect of India’s liberalization policies, steering the country away from an economic crisis and laying the foundation for its transformation into a global economic power. His visionary leadership opened India’s markets to the world, creating opportunities for millions and fostering growth and innovation.
As the 13th Prime Minister of India (2004–2014), Dr. Singh was known for his integrity, humility, and intellect. His tenure witnessed significant developments, including the implementation of transformative social welfare schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the Right to Information Act. He also played a crucial role in strengthening India's global stature, fostering strong international relations, and championing inclusive growth.
