On 19th February 2012, the first “Run For the Girl Child” marathon was organized in Rohtak city by IIM-R to spread awareness about the burning issue of discrimination faced by the fairer sex in India. A sex ratio of 903/1000 (Haryana) is not just a mere statistic but speaks volumes about odds of survival for girls. Only a few get the care, the nourishment and the education which they truly deserve
. India ranks 134 in 2011 among 187 countries in terms of the UNDP Human Development Index (HDI) and Gender Inequality Index (GII). Swabhav was initiated on 26th Jan 2012, under the purview of which an arrangement was made whereby corporate houses could help in funding the education of daughters of auto drivers/rickshaw pullers by putting up their advertisements. On 6th November 2016, the 6th Marathon was organized, in which people from different walks of life including students participated. The 7th Mini Marathon will be held later this year on the theme "Run for PEACE".
