CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI), Roorkee, organised one day NABL Gunvatta Yatra training Programme on 27 July 2026 to promote awareness about laboratory quality management systems, testing and calibration procedures, and accreditation processes. The programme was conducted in collaboration with the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) as part of its quality awareness initiative. The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Neeraj Jain, Sr. Principal Scientist and Head ODS, CSIR-CBRI. Dr. N. K. Banjara, Principal Scientist and Programme Coordinator, provided an overview of the programme and highlighted the objectives of the NABL Gunvatta Yatra in strengthening quality practices and awareness among laboratory professionals. Dr. D. P. Kanungo, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CBRI, also shared his insights on the importance of maintaining quality, technical competence, and standardised procedures in scientific research and laboratory operations. Prof. R Pradeep Kumar, Director, CSIR-CBRI, conveyed his best wishes to the participants, emphasising the importance of quality assurance, technical competence, and continual improvement in scientific research and laboratory practices, concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. C. S. Meena, Principal Scientist, CSIR-CBRI The programme featured expert sessions by Dr. Bhumi S. Rajyaguru, Joint Director, NABL, and Mr. Shivanshu Dhar Dubey, NABL, who provided valuable insights into laboratory quality systems, the NABL testing and calibration process, ISO/IEC 17025:2017, accreditation procedures, documentation requirements, and NABL’s digital resources. The sessions provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of laboratory accreditation and quality management practices. Scientists and technical staff of CSIR-CBRI actively participated in the programme, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to quality excellence, laboratory competence, and continuous improvement in research and testing practices. The programme followed by an interactive Question & Answer session, Quality Pledge, and feedback from participants.

On 24 July 2026, CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI), Roorkee, welcomed 12 IAS Trainees of Northeast from the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, as part of an institutional exposure visit. The programme commenced in the presence of Dr. D. P. Kanungo, chief scientist.
The visit was coordinated by Dr. Tabish Alam, principal scientist, who facilitated the trainees’ interaction with the Institute’s research and innovation ecosystem. During the visit, the trainees explored key facilities, including the Dr. Billing Exhibition Gallery, NEETF, 3D Facility, and the Fire Research Laboratory, where they were introduced to CSIR-CBRI’s cutting-edge work in sustainable and affordable housing, disaster-resilient construction, fire safety, advanced building materials, and innovative construction technologies.
On the occasion, Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, Director, CSIR-CBRI, conveyed his best wishes to the officer trainees for a successful career in public service and encouraged them to continue fostering a strong connect between science, technology, and governance.

CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CSIR–CBRI), Roorkee participated in the exhibition organized during the In-Service Training Programme on "Whole-of-Government Approach for Disaster Resilience and Quality of Living", held from 20–24 July 2026 at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.

At the exhibition, CSIR–CBRI showcased its cutting-edge research, technologies, and innovative solutions for disaster risk reduction, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable construction. The major exhibits included Joshimath Land Subsidence, Ground-Based Landslide Early Warning System (LEWS), Wayanad Debris Flow: Dynamics and Mechanism, Snow Avalanche Monitoring and Detection System, Seismic Performance of Retrofitted Confined Masonry, Energy-Efficient Brick Kiln Technologies, and engineering models highlighting the construction and structural aspects of the Shri Ram Mandir, along with several other indigenous technologies developed by the Institute.

The Director, LBSNAA, along with IAS and IPS Officer Trainees, senior officials, and delegates, visited the CSIR–CBRI exhibition stall. They interacted with the Institute's scientists and technical team, appreciated the innovative technologies on display, and acknowledged their significant role in strengthening disaster resilience, enhancing public safety, and promoting sustainable development across the country.

CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI), Roorkee successfully organized a two-day Skill Development Program through virtual mode on "Modern Construction Practices & Emerging Technologies" under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative and HQ CE Shillong Zone, MES for 104 officers, engineers, and professionals from the Military Engineer Services (MES). The program was inaugurated in the presence of Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, Director, CSIR-CBRI, and senior officials from MES, including Joint Director General (Head, CEEC), Sh. Rajendra Tiwari, IDSE, Director (Pers & Legal) and Sh. Aman Gupta, IDSE, Dy. Director (Pers & Legal).
The training program was designed to upgrade participants' knowledge of modern construction technologies. CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee was pleased to host Prof. (Dr.) Ponnurangam Kumaraguru, Professor, IIIT Hyderabad and Visiting Scientist, ANRF, for an insightful invited lecture on "SARAL AI: Democratising Scholarly Work by Transforming into Accessible, Multilingual Content" on 3 July 2026. The lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Ponnurangam Kumaraguru, Professor, IIIT Hyderabad and Visiting Scientist, ANRF. The program was inaugurated by Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, Director, CSIR-CBRI, who emphasized the growing role of AI in advancing scientific research and promoting inclusive knowledge dissemination. The lecture showcased how Generative AI can transform complex scholarly work into simple, multilingual, and accessible content, enabling wider dissemination of scientific knowledge through practical demonstrations and real-world applications. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from scientists, researchers, students, officers, and staff. Following the lecture, Prof. Kumaraguru visited CSIR-CBRI's advanced research facilities, including the Bilings’s Exhibition Gallery, 3D Printing Laboratory, National Experimental Facility for Earthquake Engineering Testing (NEETF), Rural technology park etc. where he interacted with scientists and learned about the Institute's cutting-edge research and technological capabilities.

On 1 July 2026, as part of the CSIR Laboratory Lecture Series, inaugurated by Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR, to showcase the scientific excellence and societal contributions of CSIR's 37 national laboratories, CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI) successfully delivered its online lecture titled "Research to Reality: Advancing India's Built Environment for Societal Impact." The lecture was presented by Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, Director, CSIR-CBRI, who highlighted the Institute's vision, multidisciplinary research capabilities, and transformative R&D achievements that are shaping India's built environment and contributing to sustainable national development. The session highlighted CSIR-CBRI's extensive research and innovation ecosystem, showcasing its contributions towards affordable housing, disaster-resilient infrastructure, sustainable construction, and the digital transformation of the built environment. Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar presented the Institute's diverse portfolio of technologies and innovations, including 3D Concrete Printing Technology, PRAHARI – Survey Web Application for Third Party Quality Assurance (TPQA) of Buildings, High Draught Zig-Zag Brick Kiln Technology Portable Solar-Assisted Heat Pump Water Heating System, Standalone UV Air Disinfection Systems, among several other technologies successfully transferred to industry. The presentation also highlighted CSIR-CBRI's significant contributions to the development of Smart Villages, Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), resilient public infrastructure, post-disaster reconstruction, heritage conservation, and sustainable habitat development across the country. From Avalanche Monitoring to Slope Stability Surveillance — CSIR-CBRI's Real-Time Monitoring System is Advancing Disaster Resilience in India's High-Risk Terrains.

Snow avalanches, landslides, rockfalls, and slope failures often provide subtle warning signs before catastrophic events. CSIR-CBRI has developed a Real-Time Tilt and Vibration Monitoring System that continuously tracks ground movement, vibration signatures, and slope instability in remote and challenging environments.

1. Detects snow movement and avalanche initiation in Himalayan regions
2. Monitors slope instability and potential landslide activity
3. Provides early warning through real-time vibration and tilt measurements
4. Operates in harsh weather conditions with long-range LoRa communication
5. Enables remote monitoring of highways, rail corridors, bridges, tunnels, and critical infrastructure
6. Successfully deployed at avalanche-prone locations along the Manali–Leh Highway and DGRE field sites

By transforming subtle vibrations into actionable intelligence, this indigenous technology strengthens disaster preparedness, protects lives, and enhances the resilience of critical infrastructure in vulnerable mountain regions.
