Ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of Sewer and Septic Tank Workers (SSWs) is essential for strengthening safe and sustainable urban sanitation systems.
Workshops are being conducted across various Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in West Bengal to sensitize SSWs on the hazards of sewer and septic tank cleaning and the precautionary measures to be followed before, during, and after undertaking sanitation work. Special emphasis is placed on the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to safeguard workers from occupational risks.
These sessions also acknowledge the challenging and precarious nature of their work, and as a small gesture of appreciation,a token of felicitation were distributed to the workers.
This initiative reflects the State’s commitment towards ensuring a safe, healthy, and dignified working environment for sanitation workers.
