THE UNOPENED LETTER...
18 Grenadiers under the command of Col(later Brigadier) Kaushal Thakur was tasked to capture and neutralize enemy to maximum extend on Tololing.
Tololing was a crucial point in order to launch attack on Tiger Hill.
Major Rajesh Adhikari (from 2 Mechanised Infantry attached to 18 Grenadiers) was ordered to lead 10men assault team for this operation. Before the attack he got the letter from his wife with whom he would have been celebrating their first wedding anniversary on 9th June.
Without opening the letter he kept it back on his pocket. When his buddy enquired, "Sahab, chitti kyun nhi padhe app". He replied, "Kiran ke wohi concerns honge mere bare mein. To pehele Tololing kabza karte hai phir padhenge".
Tololing was not a easy task and they all knew that. The terrain was almost 90 degree steep and all that enemies at Tololing had to do was just push a rock from the top.
On night 29May, Major Rajesh Adhikari with his team charged the enemy bunker. On early morning of 30th May, he reached near his objective. When two mutually supported bunker fired on him, he directed the rocket launcher team towards them, which resulted in destroying those bunkers.
He directed the MMG deattachment to fix position behind rocky feature and engage the enemy. Meanwhile the assault team kept moving towards their objectives. When Major Adhikari was injured but he kept on giving instructions to his men, refusing the evacuation.
He charged at second bunker and killing another intruder. Capturing which played important role in capturing point 4590 Tololing Top.
He later succumbed to his injuries.
When on June 16th he returned to his hometown, one week after his wedding anniversary wrapped in Tri-colour, letter was still in his pocket and unopened.

"Nobody Merits the title of a legend more than a fighter."
To Better understand this statement, have a quick glance below and Meet Commando Ashis Kumar Padhan, who was a Naval NCC Cadet in our GMU NCC and now serving the country being an honest police constable in OSAP(Odisha State Armed Police). He has also volunteered for the SOG(Special Operation Group) Commando.
Those who were not aware of SOG we can proudly tell you that, it is the special operation group, an Elite Paramilitary Unit Operating under the OP(Odisha Police). The Force Specializes in neutralising terrorists, insurgents and extremists. They are trained to execute rapid action under any circumstances and they are highly trained for field craft and jungle warfare.
And now onwards he is working under Additional Commissioner Of Police(ACP) in OSAP. And maintaining key guard posts and participating in anti-terrorist operations.
After All the motto is "Protect And Serve" and Commando Ashis Kumar Padhan is an Living Example of it and a pure source of inspiration.

Cadet then, Lieutenant now.
Lieutenant Atil Kumar Jena, son of Mrs. Saraswati Jena and Mr. Neelamani Jena and a native of Kalupada, Hirakud has been recently commissioned into 22 Mech. Inf. on 13th June by the COAS during the PoP held at IMA, Dehradun.
He had a dream of becoming an army officer since his childhood. He completed his graduation from our institution (G.M. College) with English honours and joined Indian Army in 2010 as Soldier Clerk. After selection in 2016, he took 4 years of rigorous training at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and got commissioned as an officer on 13th June 2020. Previously, he had attended Republic Day Camp in 2008 and had been also awarded when he was a NCC cadet.
He is indeed a source of inspiration for the Odia fraternity.

The victory at point 4875, Jubar Top and Khalubar wouldn’t have been possible without this man and the bravest Gorkha Soldiers.
Already recommended for MAHA VIR CHAKRA for the BATTLE OF KUKARTHANG, Lt. Manoj Pandey was tasked by his CO to lead a column and attack from the left flank. With Havildar Bhim Bahadur Diwan he took a section and moved to left flank of ridge.
Moving boulder to boulder swiftly they were able to reach near the first enemy bunker. They would have been short of 30m of that when heavy machine gun fire was showered towards them. They knew about the fierce Gorkhas and their close combat skills with Khukri and were trying to halt as much as possible.
Lt. Manoj Kumar Pandey spotted six bunkers on ridge line. He summoned Hav. Bhim Bahadur and said, “Bahadur Saab app piche ke taraf se do bunker clear karo, aur me agee se baki chaar karta hun.”
“Ho jayega Sahab” came the reply.
Hav. Bahadur kept his words and cleared those two bunkers but he had to sacrifice his life.
Meanwhile Lt. Pandey was launching the attack from the front with another section. With the shoot and move tactics, they lobbed gr***des in first two.
The feature echoed with their war cry,
“JAI MAHAKALI, AYO GORKHALI”
Lt. Pandey moved ahead for their bunker, he engaged in a close combat which resulted in serious injuries, he managed to kill them as well. With just one bunker remaining he lobbed a gr***de towards it but received a burst of fire on his body. The gr***de did its job but Lt. Manoj Kumar Pandey was no more.
But he completed the dream which he had, Posthumously decorated with PARAM VIR CHAKRA.
