To mark the celebration of Christmas 2023, An.SI, NERC, Shillong organized an advance Christmas Celebration along with a Cake cutting ceremony by Dr. Koel Mukherjee, HO, NERC, Shillong on the 22nd December, 2023 in the office conference hall to promote love, peace and solidarity among co workers.
The programme was then followed by a monthly staff meeting with all the staff members to discuss the official related matters from different sections.
AnSI, NERC, Shillong organized an outreach programme as a part of Swachhta Action plan for the 3rd quarter of 2023-24 for institutionalizing Swachhta in Laitlum Village in East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. All staff members participated in the program enthusiastically.

On November 28, 2023, Dr. K. Mukherjee, A (P) & Head of Office, Anthropological Survey of India, North East Regional Centre, Shillong, accompanied by Dr. P. Baruah, AA (P), Dr. D. Sun, AA (P), and Shri. Nabajyoti Ray, Photo Artists, visited NEHU to attend a program under the “National Mission on Libraries (NML)”, organized by the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF).In this occasion, Director, Anthropological Survey of India & Director General, Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Prof. B. V Sharma, delivered a lecture.

On the occasion of 71st Foundation Day of Anthropological Survey of India, North East Regional Centre, Shillong i.e, 5th October, this office has taken a step ahead towards introducing an art gallery. Abandoned space of this office is being utilized for making this art gallery, which is also a part of Special Campaign 3.0.

Anthropological Survey of India, North East Regional Centre, Shillong has successfully participated in the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti (Swachhta Diwas) and a part of Swachhta special campaign 3.0 on 2nd October 2023 under the leadership of Dr Koel Mukherjee, Head of Office of AnSI, Shillong. A botanical museum consisting of four different types of medicinal plants of North East India have been introduced in the office premises. All the staff members of AnSI Shillong have participated in plantation along with bamboo frame post made by them, to display the details of medicinal plants. As per the government guideline, the office took initiative to make the office premises plastic free zone by replacing the plastic items such as waste bin, coasters, cover file and table mat with the same of local sustainable materials like bamboo and cane. Apart from that, in order to w**d old files from the office, the segregated files were disposed by burning following official rules.

This office has organized a Swachhta programme for institutionalizing Swachhta in
Mawkasiang, East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya on 1 st October 2023 as a part of Special Campaign
3.0. Total 18 numbers of staff members were present at the village. The programme was started
at 10 o clock in the morning. The members of AnSI have participated with full enthusiasm to
clean the village vicinity and to convert it to a litter free zone. The garbage, collected by the staff,
was burnt as per the village guidelines.
The staff members of Anthropological Survey of India, NERC, Shillong have taken the Swachhta Shapath (pledge on Swachh Bharat mission) on 30/09/2023 under the leadership of Dr Koel Mukherjee, A(P) and Head of Office of NERC, Anthropological Survey of India , Shillong.
A workshop on bamboo-cane art & craft has been initiated in office premises. Two artisans from Khasi community have taken part in this workshop to mark the community level participation in Special Campaign 3.0.

आज दिनांक 25/09/2023 को इस क्षेत्रीय केंद्र पर तात्कालिक भाषण प्रतियोगिता किया गया।
भारतीय मानवविज्ञान सर्वेक्षण उत्तर पूर्व क्षेत्रिय केंद्र शिलांग मे आयोजित हिंदी पखवाड़ा 2023 के अंतर्गत आज सूलेख प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन सम्मलेन कक्ष मे किया गया इस मौके पर सभी लोग काफी ख़ुशी से शामिल हुए ।
भारतीय मानवविज्ञान सर्वेक्षण उत्तर पूर्व क्षेत्रिय केंद्र शिलांग द्वारा गत 14 सितंबर 2023 को हिंदी पखवाड़ा का उदघाटन समारोह मनाया गया। हिंन्दी पखवाड़ा का उदघाटन डॉ कोयल मुखर्जी, (कार्यालय अध्य़क्ष), एवं मुख्य अतिथि के द्वारा दीप प्रजलन करके किया गया। इस अवसर पर मुख्य अतिथि के रूप मे डाँ विक्रम थापा, (विभागध्यक्ष, बी. बी. एस काँलेज, शिलांग), मुहम्मद जियाउल हक, (वरिष्ठ अनुवादक, प्रधान महालेखाकार कार्यालय शिलांग), श्रीमती डायाफिरा खरसाती, (असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसर, शिलांग काँलेज), एवं डाँ विभाश धर (पुर्व कार्यालय अध्यक्ष AnSI शिलांग) को आमंत्रित किया गया था।
इस मौके पर इस कार्यालय मे भारतीय मानवविज्ञान सर्वेक्षण द्वारा प्रकाशित किताबो एवं पत्रिकावो का सेल काउंटर का उदघाटन किया गया ।
On 30th August, 2023, Swacchh Bharat Action Plan was organized in An.SI, NERC for the 2nd Quarter. The cleaning drive was carried on in Zonal Anthropological Museum by all staff members of NERC, Shillong. As museum dissemminate the awareness of local material culture, its aesthetic appeal and rare artifacts attracts many visitors at this office. All the staff members enthusiastically participated in the cleaning drive and made it successful.
Mrs. Roma Das, A(C) from this Regional Centre along with Ms. Aratrika Dutta, JSO, ERC, Kolkata conducted a field work on Banjara community of Chattisgarh under the National Project “Anthropological Study of 329 Denotified Communities”.

Smti. Elizabeth Lallawmkim, SSO and Shri Manash Jyoti Chutia, RA(C) from this Regional Centre along with Shri. Nirupam Raj Khanikar, RA(C) WRC, Udaipur conducted a field work on Rai – Sikh community of Chandigarh under the National Project “Anthropological Study of 329 Denotified Communities”.
Dr. Koel Mukherjee, A(P) and Head of Office, NERC, Shillong participated and presented a research article in the “World Anthropology Congress 2023” (WAC-2023) organized by United Indian Anthropology forum in collaboration with Department of Anthropology, Utkal University, Sambhalpur University and Delhi University at KISS Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha from 9th to 14th, August 2023.
Anthropological Survey of India, North East Regional Centre, Shillong celebrated the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People in collaboration with Women’s College, Shillong. The programme started with a welcome speech by the Principal, Women’s College, Dr. Ratnadeep Roy which was followed by a speech from Dr. Koel Mukherjee, Head of Office, AnSI, NERC, Shillong on World Indigenous Day. An essay writing competition was also conducted among the students along with a cultural programme which was organized by the Women’s College. In the event a documentary on “Lifestyle of Changpas of Ladakh” was presented by AnSI. Henceforth, prizes were distributed too according to their performance to three selected winners on essay writing competition by Dr. Koel Mukherjee and Vice Principal, Mayashree Das.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sarnali Saikia from Women’s College, Shillong
