Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma laid the foundation stone for the ₹140-crore upgradation of the 40-km Weiloi–Mawkyrwat–Rangthong Road from Single Lane to intermediate lane standard.

The vital road link will strengthen connectivity between East Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills, connecting communities to markets, educational institutions and healthcare facilities.

The ceremony was attended by Shri Prestone Tynsong, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, as Guest of Honour; Shri Timothy D. Shira, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism; Shri Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Hon’ble MLA, Mawkyrwat; Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, Hon’ble MLA, Umsning; Shri Pius Marwein, Hon’ble MLA, Ranikor; Shri Ollan Singh Shim, Hon’ble MLA, Mawsynram; and Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya.

Also present were Paiem Niandro Syiemïong, Syiem of Maharam Syiemship; Shri B.M. Syiem, Secretary, PWD (R&B); Shri W.R. Lyngdoh, Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads), along with senior officials of the Government and Public Works Department, district administration, public representatives and other dignitaries.

At the two-day ‘At Home’ event celebrating India’s 80th Independence Day, local enterprise, culture and craftsmanship took centre stage, bringing together farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs from across Meghalaya.

Organised through a collaboration between PRIME Meghalaya, MSAMB, MEGNOLIA, the Department of Arts and Culture and allied State agencies, the exhibition showcased Meghalaya’s rich agricultural, artisanal and cultural heritage, while creating opportunities for local livelihoods.

From Meghalaya Collectives, Mushroom Development Centre, Florish Meghalaya Orchid Garden and Chrysanthemum Farms to traditional crafts and grassroots enterprises, the exhibition offered a vibrant glimpse into the talent and enterprise thriving across the State.

Meghalaya hosted a majestic ‘At Home’ Reception at Lok Bhawan, Shillong, hosted by His Excellency Shri C.H. Vijayashankar, Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, and joined by Shri Conrad K. Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

The celebration brought together senior government officials, members of the Indian Armed Forces and distinguished guests, with the programme reflecting the nation’s rich heritage through art, music, dance and food.

Adding to the celebrations were stalls set up through a collaborative effort by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, MEGNOLIA, Department of Arts and Culture, and allied State departments, showcasing Meghalaya’s agricultural, artisanal and cultural heritage while highlighting the State’s focus on sustainable livelihoods, cultural preservation and organic farming.
