To tackle spam calls, the Government of India has introduced a new *160 prefix* for transactional and service-related calls from financial institutions, government bodies, and telecom providers. This will help citizens easily identify legitimate calls and avoid scams.

Initially, the **160 prefix** will be used by RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, and PFRDA entities, with plans to expand to banks and other financial institutions. As part of broader efforts to reduce spam, promotional calls from the *140 series* will also be moved to a new platform.

Next time you see a call from *160*, you can trust it’s more likely to be legitimate. Stay safe
