The event featured field demonstrations on improved cultivation practices, exposure visits to the ARC Seed Production Unit at Laitumiong Polyhouse, sessions on potato storage, potato value addition, and market linkages, along with the distribution of packages of practices to participating farmers. Farmers also visited demonstration plots showcasing high-performing crop varieties and participated in the selection of best-performing varieties suitable for wider adoption in the region.

Resource persons and technical experts shared practical insights on seed production, post-harvest management, value chain development, and strengthening farmer-led institutions, while encouraging greater adoption of sustainable and scientific farming methods to improve productivity and rural livelihoods across Meghalaya.

Following the successful Half-Day Closing Workshop, MBDA/MegARISE in collaboration with ICAR–NBSS&LUP conducted a 2 and a half day Training Programme on Land Resource Inventory (LRI) and Geo-spatial Techniques from 18th–20th May 2026 at Shillong.

The training covered key aspects of LRI datasets, geospatial technologies, soil–landform relationships, GIS-based landform and thematic map generation, soil taxonomy, cLHS modelling, and applications of LRI under MegARISE for natural resource management and village-level planning.

Participants from MegARISE, MLAMP, MegLIFE, GIS & UAV units and other MBMA/MBDA projects, underwent practical GIS sessions and field exercises led by scientists and experts from ICAR–NBSS&LUP. The field visits included soil profile studies, GPS validation, landform interpretation, and identification of suitable interventions in the Ganol and Umiew catchments.

A major highlight of the field exercise was the soil profiling and sample collection conducted in an area where peaty soil had been previously identified and discovered. Soil samples from the site were collected for further scientific analysis and testing, providing valuable practical exposure on soil characterization, terrain interpretation, conservation of sensitive soil ecosystems, and the application of geospatial technologies for sustainable land and watershed management in Meghalaya.
