The Beauty of Loulan is a naturally preserved dead body of a woman who lived about 3800 years ago, during the Bronze Age. She was found on April 1, 1980 near the Silk Road in the Xinjiang region of China. She is one of the Tarim mummies, named after the location where she was found - the Tarim Basin.
Unlike Egyptian mummies which were preserved intentionally, the Loulan Beauty is preserved by accident. She was buried near a salt lake in the desert, where the arid conditions dried the body, preserving even the finest details of her face, such as her eyelashes. By DNA tests they found she was at least part European, but her people might have lived in Siberia before migrating to Xinjiang. The woman is estimated to have been between 40 and 48 years old at the time of her death. Her height was 152–155 cm. # # #
