District Magistrate Shopian, Shishir Gupta, today interacted with the media regarding the upcoming Mega Padyatra being organized in the district under the ongoing 100 Days Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.

He said that the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor launched the 100 day Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan across Jammu and Kashmir from April 11, 2026, with the objective of intensifying the fight against drug abuse and taking the message of a drug-free society to every household.

He informed that as part of the campaign, Mega Padyatras are being organized in every district of Jammu and Kashmir. In this connection, the Mega Padyatra in Shopian district is scheduled to be held tomorrow, May 23, 2026, in which the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor,J&K, Manoj Sinha will be the Chief Guest.

“Tomorrow’s Mega Padyatra is not merely an event, but a collective pledge of the people of Shopian against drug abuse. Every citizen’s participation will strengthen this mission and send a strong message that society stands united for a Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir,” the DM said.

He said that the main aim of the programme is to create mass awareness against drug abuse and ensure that the message of Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan reaches every home, every village, and every section of society.

Appealing to the people of Shopian district, including youth, students, civil society members, traders, religious leaders, PRIs, government employees and the general public, the DM urged them to participate in large numbers.

DM emphasized that drug abuse is a serious social menace and cannot be controlled by the administration alone. He said that collective public participation is essential to fight this challenge effectively and to protect the younger generation from the harmful effects of substance abuse.

He further urged citizens to come forward with a sense of responsibility and join hands with the administration in making Shopian a drug-free district.

In a major push toward public awareness and community participation, a mega district-level self-enumeration awareness programme
Commenced from 17th May, will continue till 31st May, 2026 for census 2027 was successfully conducted today here at the Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian.

Deputy Commissioner (DC), Principal Census Officer, Shopian, Shishir Gupta was the Chief Guest on the occasion
who emphasized the landmark shift toward citizen-led digital data collection.

​Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner underscored the critical importance of accurate, timely data and called upon the entire administrative machinery to act as catalysts for public engagement and also ensure 100% data collection and message to all to aware about self-enumeration.

​"Coordinated administrative efforts and grassroots public awareness are the absolute pillars for the smooth, successful ex*****on of census 2027 across the district," DC remarked.
​He strictly urged all officers and employees to not only actively participate in the process themselves but also to rigorously motivate the general public for maximum digital onboarding
​the Self-Enumeration Windows.

DC emphasized the significance of accurate data collection and urged all officers and officials to approach the training with utmost dedication to ensure the successful implementation of census- 2027 across the district.

While speaking on the occasion, DSEO (Additional District Census Officer), Shopian, Bilqees Zahoor said that the primary aim of self-enumeration process is the counting of the population and moving away from paper- based operations to now digital census. She stressed that all details of the households must be provided and urged for taking part in the process of self-enumeration with dedication.

The comprehensive training initiative was split into two separate, intensive sessions to ensure detailed coverage of the census modalities.

During the event, district coordinator, Naveen Ragu, master trainers, Irfan Ahmed and Bilal Ahmed and Field Trainer(FT), Feroz Ahmed Lone imparted crucial technical training to the participating officers, officials and other key stakeholders.
FT briefed the participants about the question- answer hour of self-enumeration programme, highlighting it's significance in ensuring accurate data. The sessions focused on equipping the staff with the necessary skills to seamlessly manage and execute the self- enumeration process.

​The district administration has finalized a comprehensive outreach framework to assist citizens during this 15-day window, ensuring that the transition to India's first heavily paperless census model is seamless and inclusive for every household in District Shopian.

During the sessions, participants were briefed about digital registration, data accuracy and public awareness measures to ensure smooth conduct of census- 2027 activities.

Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, Principal, GDC, Tariq Ahmed, officers, officials and stakeholders were present.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian,Shishir Gupta today convened a meeting here at Mini-Secretariat Shopian to review and finalize arrangements for the forthcoming Mega Padyatra scheduled to be held in Shopian on May, 23, 2026.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding security arrangements, traffic regulation, sanitation, medical facilities, drinking water, electricity,deployment of magistrates, seating, refreshment,parking facilities and other necessary arrangements to ensure smooth and successful conduct of the event.

All necessary arrangements were finalised and responsibility fixed among departments.Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination and ensure timely completion of assigned responsibilities.He stressed on providing all essential facilities for the convenience of participants.

DC emphasized that adequate medical teams, ambulances and emergency response mechanisms should remain available during the event. He also directed concerned agencies to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply at designated locations.

Officers from various departments attended the meeting and apprised the chair about the preparedness and measures being put in place for the successful conduct of the Padyatra.

DC Shopian chairs meeting to finalize arrangements for VVIP visit
SHOPIAN, MAY 11: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta today chaired a meeting here at Mini-Secretariat Shopian to review and finalize arrangements for the upcoming VVIP visit to Shopian, scheduled on May 14.
All arrangements including security, transport, participation, parking facilities, water and power supplies, PAS, sanitation, healthcare, and other essential arrangements were minutely discussed and directions given to all to ensure the arrangements well on time.
During the meeting, the DC issued strict instructions to all heads of departments to execute their assigned tasks seamlessly with the highest degree of synergy and coordination to ensure smooth and successful conduct of the event.
He directed departments to execute departmental action plans perfectly while keeping in view the hassle free public movement towards the venue for participation and mobilisation strategy so that the event is organised in the best possible manner.
He emphasized the need for making the event inclusive and vibrant through broad-based participation from all sections of society.
The event marks a major milestone in the government's push towards engaging youth in sports activities as some of the ambitious and vital sports infrastructure projects are being dedicated for the public.
The meeting was attended by ADC, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, PO Poshan Abhiyan, GM DIC, ACR, ACD, ASP, district and sectoral officers of departments and other officials.
