On the occasion of World Mangrove Day, we had the privilege of engaging youth, children, fisherfolk, and women's groups across the Pulicat landscape in awareness programmes highlighting the vital role of mangroves in conserving biodiversity, protecting coastal ecosystems, and strengthening climate resilience. Rural Enlightment & Agricultural Development Society Ngo In collaboration with the Department of Forests, local elected representatives, community leaders, and the Pulicat Restoration Committee, we also conducted an essay competition on Nature and Biodiversity, inspiring the next generation to become informed custodians of our natural heritage. Together, these collective efforts reaffirm that restoring and protecting mangroves is not only an environmental priority but also a pathway to sustainable livelihoods, resilient communities, and a thriving Blue Economy.

Theory of Change: Seaweed; Livelihoods meet Climate Action
Seaweed is a powerful nature-based solution creating value for People, Planet, and Climate. Addressing climate change, seaweed offers a unique opportunity to strengthen coastal livelihoods while restoring marine ecosystems.

Rural Enlightment Agricultural Development Society is working in Andhra Pradesh coastline on Seaweed farming with coastal women and youth to build resilient enterprises, diversify household incomes, and participate in the emerging Blue Economy while contributing to carbon absorption, improving water quality, supporting marine biodiversity, and enhancing the resilience of coastal ecosystems against climate impacts.

As READs NGO promotes coastal communities to climate-smart livelihoods by strengthening skills, building market linkages, and developing inclusive value chains. By transforming coastal resources into sustainable enterprises, communities are not only improving their economic well-being but also becoming active stewards of our oceans and partners in global climate action.

The future of the Blue Economy lies in solutions that generate prosperity, protect nature, and build climate resilience. Seaweed is one such solution, creating a healthier ocean, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Proud to support coastal women in becoming champions of food safety, food security, and sustainable food systems. Through hands-on training on hygienic fish handling, drying, storage, value addition, and market-linked technologies, women are reducing post-harvest losses in maritime fisheries while creating new livelihood and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Beyond increasing incomes, they are contributing to a more resilient and sustainable food system, turning waste into value and strengthening communities for the future.
