Apni Party Provincial President Mohammmad Ashraf Mir leads delegation to HCM Omar Abdullah, raises concerns over proposed IIM site
Srinagar, May 23: Apni Party's Provincial President and former minister & Ex - MLA Mohammad Ashraf Mir leads delegation to meet Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.The meeting focused on the widespread concerns regarding the proposed site for the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the Athwajan area of Srinagar.
Mohammad Ashraf Mir was accompanied by party's Provincial Secretary and DDC Chairman Malik Aftab, District President Srinagar Mohammaf Shafi Mir, Bashir Bhat, GM Bhat and others, highlighted the adverse impact of project that could have on the area’s existing infrastructure, as well as its vital green spaces, which serve as important public commons for the local population.
Ashraf Mir stated that while development and educational expansions are welcome, they must not come at the cost of environmental degradation and the displacement of essential community resources.
"The people of Athwajan and Pandrethan are not opposed to progress. However, it must be balanced and inclusive. The current proposed location for the IIM risks disturbing the ecological balance and undermines the existing public infrastructure that supports thousands of residents," Mir stated during the meeting.
The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised and assured the delegation that the matter would be looked into with seriousness. He promised that a thorough review would be conducted and that the voices of the local communities would be considered in any final decision.
Mohammad Ashraf Mir expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for his receptive approach and reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the interests of people.
