Conclusion of World Population Campaign: Best-Performing Health Workers Felicitated

On the occasion of the conclusion of the World Population Campaign, Director, Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization, J&K, Dr. Afsana Bano, felicitated the best-performing Female Multi-Purpose Health Workers (FMPHWs) and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) from the districts of Budgam, Baramulla, and Ganderbal. The health workers were recognized for their outstanding performance in motivating eligible beneficiaries and effectively implementing Family Planning services in their respective areas and health institutions during the financial year 2025–26.

The Appreciation Certificates were presented during a function held in the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization, J&K.

While congratulating the awardees, Dr. Afsana Bano appreciated their dedication, commitment, and significant contribution towards strengthening Family Planning services across the Union Territory. She emphasized that the sincere efforts of frontline health workers play a vital role in improving reproductive, maternal, and child health outcomes. She also encouraged all FMPHWs and ASHAs to continue working with the same enthusiasm and commitment to further improve reproductive health indicators and ensure quality Family Planning services at the grassroots level.

Among those present on the occasion were Dr. Bashir Ahmad Malik, Assistant Director, Kashmir Division, Mr. Rakesh Sharma, SMEMO, and other officers and staff members of the Directorate.

UT Level Launch of National Immunization Day (Pulse Polio) 2026 was held at District Hospital Kulgam, marking the commencement of the Pulse Polio campaign across Jammu & Kashmir.

The campaign was inaugurated by Ms. Sakeena Masood (Itoo), Hon’ble Minister for Health & Medical Education, J&K, who administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) drops to children and appealed to parents, health workers and stakeholders to ensure 100% coverage of all children below 5 years.

The Hon’ble Minister reiterated the commitment of the Government towards protecting children’s health and sustaining India’s Polio-Free status.

The programme was attended by senior officers of the Health Department, including Dr. Afsana Bano, Director Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization, J&K, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam and other officials.

Director, Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization, J&K, Dr. Afshan Bano Reviews Preparedness for National Immunization Day (Pulse Polio) 2026

Dr. Afshan Bano, Director, Family Welfare, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Immunization, Jammu & Kashmir, chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the preparedness for the forthcoming National Immunization Day (Pulse Polio Campaign), scheduled to be conducted across the country on 28 June 2026.

During the meeting, Dr. Bano undertook a detailed review of all operational and logistical arrangements to ensure the effective implementation of the campaign across the Union Territory. The review focused on the availability and deployment of adequate manpower at all levels, the appointment and orientation of supervisors for effective field monitoring, and the rational planning and strategic placement of vaccination booths to maximize accessibility for children and their caregivers.

Special emphasis was laid on the timely distribution of vaccines and logistics up to the last cold chain point, including hard-to-reach and remote areas. The status of cold chain infrastructure, vaccine management systems, micro-planning, and inter-sectoral coordination mechanisms was also reviewed to ensure comprehensive coverage during the campaign.

Underscoring the significance of sustaining the country's polio-free status, Dr. Bano directed all districts to ensure that vaccines reach every eligible child and reiterated the commitment that no child should be left behind. She emphasized the need for meticulous planning, close supervision, and coordinated efforts by all stakeholders to achieve 100 percent coverage during the Pulse Polio campaign.
The meeting was attended by officers of the Directorate of Family Welfare, including the Administrative Officer, Deputy Director (Planning), Assistant Directors of Jammu and Kashmir divisions, SMEIO jandk,, State Cold Chain Officer, Deputy Chief Medical Officers, District Immunization Officers from all districts, and representatives of development partner organizations. Jammu based officers and officials attended the meeting virtually.
All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to the successful implementation of the National Immunization Day and to preserving India's hard-earned polio-free status through collective action and sustained efforts.
