Child Welfare Committee Continues Monitoring of Registered Child Care Institutions
As part of its ongoing district-wide monitoring and inspection drive, the Child Welfare Committee, Srinagar conducted inspections of the following registered Child Care Institutions (CCIs):
* Al-Masumeen Yateem Trust, Zadibal
* J&K Yateem Trust, Gulshan Mahal-A, Rainawari
* J&K Yateem Trust, Gulshan Mahal-B, Soura
The inspection team was assisted by Ms. Bisma Mohi-ud-Din and Ms. Mufeeda Shah, Outreach Workers, Srinagar.
The inspections were undertaken to assess compliance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, the J&K Juvenile Justice Rules, 2021, and the prescribed standards of care, with particular focus on the rights, safety, dignity and best interests of children.
The Committee assessed essential aspects including infrastructure, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition, healthcare, education, counselling and psychosocial support, safety and security, staffing, statutory records and overall quality of care. The Committee also interacted with children residing in the institutions to ascertain their concerns, protection needs and well-being, besides interacting with the management and staff regarding compliance with statutory requirements.
The Committee reiterated that regular monitoring of CCIs is essential for accountability, protection of children’s rights and maintenance of prescribed standards of care. Any deficiencies identified during the inspections shall be appropriately followed up in accordance with law.
The inspection of the remaining registered CCIs in District Srinagar shall continue as part of the Committee’s statutory monitoring and child protection mandate, with the objective of ensuring safe, dignified and child-centred institutional care.
