Unfortunately, for the past two years, this ambulance has not been available at the centre. As a result, during emergencies, poor and helpless patients are forced to arrange private vehicles, sumos, or other means of transport. This is not just an administrative lapse, it is a serious humanitarian issue that directly puts lives at risk.
By keeping this ambulance unavailable, the basic right to emergency healthcare of nearly 80,000 people has effectively been taken away. Ramnagri is not just a single village, it is a large block and sub-division that serves multiple far-flung areas, including regions like Aharbal and other surrounding remote localities. This centre is a lifeline not only for local residents but also for people from nearby areas who depend on it for emergency support.
Ramnagri is a remote tribal region, located far from the district headquarters. Here, an ambulance is not a luxury, it is a basic necessity. A major health centre functioning without an ambulance is a matter of serious concern and institutional failure.
This ambulance could also play a critical role in helping tourists and visitors travelling towards Aharbal and other tourists in case of accidents or medical emergencies, making it an essential public service vehicle, not just a local facility.
We make a respectful but firm appeal to the District Administration Shopian to immediately restore the ambulance to , for which it was originally allotted, so that the local population and surrounding areas can access basic emergency healthcare services without facing unnecessary hardship or life-threatening delays.
An ambulance is for the people, not for officials
