No death caused due to polio immunization,

says Director Health

Director Health Kashmir Samir Matto Sunday dismissed as rumours the reports suggesting that there have been deaths of children in Pulwama due to Pulse polio drops.

“This all rumor. No death has been caused and there is no any adverse reports about reaction by the children,” Mattoo told reporters

He clarified that people not need to panic and urged them to not pay heed to rumors.

Earlier, CMO Pulwama Dr Fayaz Ahmad said that no child has died due to polio drops.

He asked people not to pay heed to rumours.

Similarly, CMO Budgam Dr GM Dar said that people shouldn't pay heed to such baseless rumours.

Meanwhile, parents are rushing their little kids to hospitals.

GB Pant Hospital, JLNM and SKIMS are presently witnessing rush of parents who have brought their children after rumours.

Top medicos in these hospitals told reporters that no case of death has occurred.

“This is because of rumor that parents are visiting unnecessarily hospitals.

We request them not to panic and not to pay heed to the rumors,” they said.

PSC postpones exams scheduled for Friday
According to Controller of Examination, Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission all the Examination scheduled to be held on 23 October 2015 (Friday) has been postponed.

DEERS carries out Flood Inundation Mapping in state
JAMMU -Director Department of Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing (DEERS) Suresh Chugh has informed that the department is carrying out ‘Near Real Time Flood Inundation Mapping’ using satellite data from NRSC Hyderabad. NRSC has programmed RISAT-1 satellite data sets on 31st March 2015 for providing daily satellite imageries
The satellite dataset will be analyzed and a state-level flood inundation map for part of Jammu & Kashmir will be prepared on daily basis. Since the images are being acquired during/immediate to the rainfall event, large extents of wet areas were also observed.
These satellite imageries which will be uploaded on the website of the Environment department i.e. jkdears.com. Further, one can visit flood page in Bhuvan portal (bhuvan-noeda.nrsc.gov.in/disaster/disaster/disaster.php) and NDEM portal for better visualization of flood extent in Jammu & Kashmir State with villages overlay.
The department will continue to keep a watch on the inundation situation and update the information as and when it is acquired from NRSC.

‘Next 24 hours crucial’: Sonam Lotus

Srinagar: Heavy rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir, including the summer capital Srinagar on Wednesday, triggering flood threat across the Valley yet again. The Meteorological department predicted no improvement in weather till April 3 (Friday).
MeT Director Sonam Lotus told us that moderate to heavy rains will continue to lash Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions till Friday. “There is a precipitation due to interaction between the currents and Western Disturbances prevalent over all three regions of the State,” he said adding that next 24 hours are going to be crucial.
Lotus said that rainfall with such intensity during the month of March was only recorded in 1983 and this time in the month of March Kashmir has witnessed 300mm rainfall.
The water in Jhelum at Sangam, Ram Munshi Bagh and Asham Sumbal receded however in North Kashmir’s Sopore and Baramulla towns the water level has been showing an upward trend. The incessant rains, which threw life out of gear across Kashmir, also triggered a flood alert in North Kashmir areas. Several houses in Maharaj Pora, Watlab Ghat, Takiabal Ghat, Sher Colony and Haritar in Sopore town were submerged in water.
“We have issued flood alert for Sopore and asked the people living along the banks of River Jehlum to move to safer places. The level of Jehlum in Sopore is increasing. We have made all arrangements and are ready to meet any eventuality,” SDM Sopore Dr Nasir told CNS adding the situation is being monitored closely.
Chief Engineer Flood and Irrigation Control Javid Jaffer said the situation in Srinagar is being closely monitored “There has been no increase in water levels in rivers,” he said.
At least two houses were collaspsed due to water logging at Lal Bazar and Narbal. Water logging according to reports has been turning out the major concern for the people. Many areas in Srinagar were inundated Wednesday due to heavy rains, disrupting normal life across the summer capital. These included Safa Kadal, Eidgah, Nowshehra, Soura, Ali Jan Road, Gulshan Nagar, Gogji Bagh, Wazir Bagh, Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh and Bemina. At various places water spilled from drains and flood channels have entered into the residential houses. The business establishments and government offices including Pollution Control Board, Wild Life and Cooperative Bank in Raj Bagh are completely water logged.
Baramulla police shifted five families during night comprising of 37 souls at village Dangerpora, relocated and shifted to their relatives houses in the same village.
Shopian police shifted a family of Mohammad Anwar Ganie son of Fatah Ganie resident of D.K Pora, Zainapora to safer place as their residential house collapsed.
At least members of a family were evacuated in the village Malas of Tehsil Mahore to safer places by Gool based Rashtriya Rifles men.
Reports said many people living around the banks of the Nallah and river Jehlum in South, Central and North Kashmir were evacuated and shifted to safer places.
“ All the evacuated persons have been shifted and adjusted in schools and other government buildings,” an official said.
In Uri town of Baramulla district, authorities closed the road and didn’t allow any vehicle to cross the NS Bridge after a minor landslide. However, the road was cleared after three hours for the traffic.

Postponed papers of 10th, 12th classes to be held after weather permits: Priya
Minister of State for Education, Ms. Priya Sethi informed the House that the examinations in Kashmir Division for class 12th was scheduled to be held from 2ndMarch 2015 and for class 10th from March 17, 2015.
The Minister further said that examination scheduled on 7th, March 2015 in respect of Class 12th in Gurez were postponed due to inclement weather. She said Government also postponed examination in Kashmir Division for Class 12th on 2nd , 4th and 9th March 2015 and these were held on 20th , 22nd and 24th March 2015.
The Minister further informed the examinations scheduled for Class 10th on 17th, 30thMarch and 2nd April 2015 also stand postponed in the entire Kashmir Division including Gurez due to inclement weather.
She said only the examinations postponed on 7th March 2015 in Chemistry and Economics papers in five centers of Tehsil Gurez have not yet been held and these shall be held as soon as weather condition improve.
