Police arrests two drug peddlers in Pulwama; Contraband substance recovered

June 03: Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police in Pulwama achieved a significant success by apprehending two drug peddlers and recovering a substantial quantity of heroin-like substance at SIDCO Lassipora.

During naka checking at SIDCO Lassipora, a Police Party of Police Post Lassipora intercepted a Tata Mobile bearing registration No. JK13C-7361, driven by Ishfaq Majeed Wani son of Abdul Majeed Wani resident of Mughalpora Cherath, Pulwama, along with co-passenger Reyaz Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Akbar Wani resident of Looswani, Newa Pulwama.

During search, approximately 17.5 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the possession of Ishfaq Majeed Wani and 31 grams from the possession of Reyaz Ahmad Wani, making a total recovery of 48.5 grams. The contraband substance along with the vehicle used in the commission of the offence was seized on the spot.

Accordingly, FIR No. 73/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Litter and investigation has been set into motion.

Cyber awareness programmes conducted in various educational institutions in Awantipora & Anantnag

June 03: In continuation of its sustained efforts to promote cyber safety, digital literacy, and responsible online behaviour among youth, J&K Police conducted a series of Cyber Awareness Programmes at various educational institutions in Police District Awantipora and Anantnag.

The awareness sessions were organized at Higher Secondary School Satura, Alchemy Public School Tral, Government Higher Secondary School Gulzarpora, Evergreen High School Chersoo, and Government Degree College Larnoo. The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teaching staff, and faculty members.

During the sessions, police officers sensitized participants about the evolving cyber threat landscape and various forms of cybercrime, including online financial frauds, phishing attacks, identity theft, social media scams, cyberbullying, and other cyber-enabled offences. The speakers highlighted the modus operandi commonly employed by cybercriminals and emphasized the importance of adopting preventive measures to safeguard personal and financial information in the digital space.

Participants were advised to practice cyber hygiene by using strong and unique passwords, enabling security features on digital accounts, exercising caution while sharing personal information online, and promptly reporting suspicious online activities. Practical demonstrations and interactive discussions were conducted to enhance awareness regarding safe internet usage and digital responsibility.

The programmes received an encouraging response from the participants, who actively engaged in discussions and sought guidance on various cyber security concerns. Faculty members and students appreciated the initiative and underscored the importance of such awareness campaigns in equipping young internet users with the knowledge required to navigate the digital ecosystem safely.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to strengthening cyber resilience within the community through sustained outreach initiatives, awareness campaigns, and educational programmes aimed at fostering a secure and informed digital environment across the region.

Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan: Wild Bhang destruction drive conducted in Awantipora

June 03: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, a Wild Bhang Destruction Drive was carried out at Chersoo to curb the illegal cultivation and growth of narcotic plants.

The drive was conducted with the objective of eliminating naturally grown cannabis plants and preventing their misuse for illicit drug-related activities. Local stakeholders were also sensitized about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of community participation in creating a drug free society.

Police reiterated their commitment to continue such preventive and enforcement measures across the district and appealed to the public to cooperate in the fight against drug abuse by sharing information regarding the cultivation, sale, or consumption of narcotic substances.

Police attach residential house worth ₹60 lakhs of notorious drug peddler under NDPS Act in Anantnag

June 03: Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and the illegal narcotics network, Police in Anantnag attached a two-storey residential house belonging to a notorious drug peddler under the provisions of the NDPS Act.

The attached property comprises a two-storey concrete residential house constructed over 6 marlas of land, having an estimated market value of approximately ₹60 lakhs.

The property belongs to notorious drug peddler Aasif Hussain Khan alias Soab Don, son of Abdul Gani Khan resident of Anchidora, Anantnag.

The attachment has been carried out under Section 68F of the NDPS Act after following due legal procedure. The property has been identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from illicit drug trafficking and narcotics-related activities.

This action forms part of J&K Police's intensified efforts to dismantle the financial infrastructure of drug traffickers and ensure that illicit gains amassed through drug-related crimes are seized in accordance with law. Such measures are aimed at curbing the drug menace and preventing offenders from benefiting from proceeds of crime.

J&K Police remains steadfast in its commitment to making the district drug-free and urges the public to continue extending support by sharing information about drug peddling and other criminal activities.

Police seizes 04 vehicles for illegal extraction & transportation of minerals in Ganderbal

June 03: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining and transportation of minerals, Police in Ganderbal seized 04 vehicles including 02 Tippers and 02 Tractors for illegal extraction of Minerals in the jurisdiction of Police Station Lar.

These vehicles were found extracting and transporting mining material without valid authorization, in violation of the prescribed norms. Accordingly, the vehicles were seized on the spot and the matter was taken up with the concerned Geology & Mining Department, which subsequently imposed the requisite fine under the relevant provisions of law.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to curb illegal mining activities and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in protecting natural resources. Strict action will continue against those found indulging in such unlawful practices.

Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan: Illegal poppy and cannabis cultivation destroyed in Shopian, Anantnag and Sopore

June 03: Continuing the intensified anti-drug campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police in Shopian, Anantnag and Sopore have taken coordinated action against illegal cultivation of narcotic crops, leading to the destruction of illicit poppy and cannabis plantations and registration of criminal cases.

In Shopian, acting on specific intelligence, Police Station Heerpora, in coordination with Revenue Department officials, detected and destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in the Amshipora area. The cultivation was found on land belonging to a local resident. Accordingly, FIR No. 46/2026 has been registered at Police Station Heerpora, and further investigation is underway.

In Anantnag, Police Station Achabal, along with the Executive Magistrate and Agriculture Department officials, detected and destroyed an illicit poppy plantation spread over approximately one marla of land in the Achabal area. FIR No. 47/2026 has been registered, and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in Sopore, a joint team of Police and Excise Department officials conducted a destruction drive in the Panzalla area, where wild cannabis growth was identified and destroyed after completion of legal formalities. Samples were collected and seized for further examination.

J&K Police have reiterated that cultivation, possession, transportation and illegal use of narcotic substances constitute serious offences under the NDPS Act and will attract strict legal action.

J&K Police urged the public to actively support anti-drug efforts by sharing information related to narcotics cultivation, trafficking or abuse, reaffirming their commitment to building a drug-free society.

Police arrests drug peddler in Safapora Ganderbal; Contraband substance recovered

June 02: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan,” Police in Ganderbal apprehended a drug peddler during a surprise naka established by Police Station Safapora at Chesmai Manasbal.

During checking, a suspicious individual identified as Asif Ahmed Kaloo son of Ghulam Nabi Kaloo resident of Hilal Abad Nesbal, Naninara, Sumbal was apprehended. Upon his personal search, heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.

In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 13/2026, under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Safapora and investigation has been taken up.

Police recover 68 Kgs of poppy straw in Budgam; one person arrested

June 02: Continuing its sustained crackdown against narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police in Budgam achieved a significant success by recovering a huge quantity of contraband substance in the Charar-i-Sharief area of the district.

Police Station Charar-i-Sharief received reliable information that one individual, identified as Noor Mohammad Dar son of Mohammad Ismail Dar resident of Hapatnar, Charar-i-Sharief, had illegally concealed a substantial quantity of poppy straw inside his residential house.

Acting promptly on the credible input, Police Station Charar-i-Sharief registered FIR No. 36/2026 under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation into the matter.

Subsequently, a police team conducted a search operation at the residence of the accused in accordance with legal procedures. During the search, approximately 68 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the premises. The recovered contraband was seized on the spot after completing all legal formalities in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses.

The accused person has been arrested and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband substance and to identify any forward or backward linkages connected with the narcotics network.

J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment towards a drug-free society and its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. General public is urged to cooperate with police by sharing any information related to drug peddling or other criminal activities.

Pulwama Police attaches property worth lacs under NDPS Act in Ompora Budgam

June 02: In its continued efforts to curb drug trafficking and dismantle the financial networks of narcotics peddlers, Police in Pulwama has attached a double-storey residential house worth ₹19.65 lakh belonging to a drug peddler involved in an NDPS case.

The attached property comprises a double-storey concrete house built in 2023 over Plot No. 445 measuring 828.5 sq ft at Housing Colony Ompora, Budgam and belongs to Towfeeq Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohd Rafiq Sheikh resident of Yariban Hajitra Karnah, Kupwara and at present Housing Colony Ompora Budgam.

The property has been attached under Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act, 1985 in connection with FIR No. 124/2025 U/S 8/21/29 NDPS Act of Police Station Rajpora. Investigation revealed that the property is disproportionate to the known sources of income of the accused and have been acquired through proceeds of illicit narcotic trafficking.

J&K Police remains committed to taking stringent action against drug peddlers and targeting assets derived from the narcotics trade as part of its sustained campaign against the drug menace.
