Bandipora Police Destroys Illegal Poppy Cultivation; Multiple NDPS FIRs Registered
16 drug peddlers bound down, awareness programme conducted under Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan
May 19: Continuing its sustained crackdown against the drug menace under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, Police in Bandipora, in coordination with the Revenue, Agriculture and Excise Departments, carried out joint operations in different areas of the district and destroyed illegally cultivated poppy crops on the spot.
A joint operation was conducted in the Ashtangoo Ghat area falling under the jurisdiction of PP Aloosa of Police Station Bandipora, during which illegal poppy cultivation was identified and destroyed.
In this connection, a case vide FIR No. 68/2026 has been registered at Police Station Bandipora.
Similarly, another joint operation was conducted in the Dardpora Arin area falling under the jurisdiction of PP Sumlar of Police Station Bandipora in coordination with the Revenue, Agriculture and Excise Departments. During the operation, illegally cultivated poppy crops were destroyed on the spot.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 67/2026 has also been registered at Police Station Bandipora.
Meanwhile, as part of the preventive and awareness initiatives under the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, an awareness programme was organised at Government Higher Secondary School Kaloosa, Bandipora. The programme witnessed active participation of a large number of students and members of the teaching faculty.
During the programme, officers highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse on individuals, families and society, and urged students to stay away from narcotics and act as ambassadors against drug abuse in their communities.
In addition, taking strong action against drug peddlers, J&K Police produced 16 notorious drug peddlers before the Executive Magistrate and got them bound down under preventive measures to deter them from indulging in illegal narcotics-related activities.
