A training program on "Water Quality Monitoring" was held at Heirok (Part-2 Moirangthem Leikai) in Thoubal district of Manipur on 29th August 2026%, where several resource persons facilitated the significance of water bodies and monitoring of the water quality organized by North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), a capacity institute under the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti (GoI) in collaboration with Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur.
More than 100 trainees participated in the program, and the inaugural was attended by Binalakshmi Nepram, founder and director of the Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network, as chief guest, Dr. Laishram Kanta Singh, Director, NERIWALM and President of Apunba Imagi Macha Sing Mayanglambam Khelendro, along with Retired Additional Director (Health) Dr. S. Manikanta Singh, former Director of ICM Lamphel Kh. Somendro, Assistant Professor of NERIWALM Dr. Sanayanbi Hodam, Research Associate of NERIWALM Shrer Ningthoujam Manihar as guests of honors.

The North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), Tezpur, Assam, organised a three-day training programme on “Remote Sensing and GIS Application in Water Resource Management” from 27 to 29 August 2026 at CubeTen Technologies, Mantripukhri, Imphal, Manipur.
Coordinated by Dr. Luna Moni Das, Assistant Professor, NERIWALM, the training aimed to strengthen the technical capacity of government officials in using Remote Sensing (RS), GIS, and geospatial technologies for sustainable water planning.
A total of 27 officers from seven departments and institutions participated, including MARSAC, ICAR, KVK, Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment and Climate Change, College of Agriculture, and the Water Resources Department. The diverse participation provided a platform for sharing experiences and exploring practical geospatial applications.
Expert resource persons included Mr. W. Erikson (MARSAC), Dr. Sunanda Kundu (Manipur University), alongside Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Buragohain, Mr. Sanathoi, Dr. Luna Moni Das, and Dr. Sanayanbi Hodam from NERIWALM.
The programme covered satellite data, spatial analysis, thematic mapping, watershed assessment, and hands-on QGIS training for departmental applications.
It promoted interaction among professionals in agriculture, water resources, environment, and spatial planning through multidisciplinary exchange.
The valedictory session was attended by Dr. Laishram Kanta Singh, Director, NERIWALM, who highlighted RS and GIS as key tools for mapping water bodies, groundwater potential, land use, and flood areas. The session concluded with certificate distribution.
This successful initiative under the Ministry of Jal Shakti reinforces NERIWALM’s commitment to building technical capacity across the North Eastern Region.

North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), Tezpur, in collaboration with the Association for Sustainable Economic And Environmental Development (SEED), successfully organized a one-day training programme on "Water Quality Monitoring" at Changangei, Near Imphal Airport, Imphal West on 27th August 2026.
​The event aimed to empower key local stakeholders, including farmers, women's groups, NGOs, and Jal Mitras, with practical knowledge and skills regarding sustainable water management and monitoring techniques.
​The event commenced with registration and an inaugural session led by NERIWALM officials, followed by an introductory lecture on the basics of water quality by officials of PHED, Manipur. Dr. Sanayanbi Hodam, Assistant Professor (WRE), delivered an insightful session on community-based rainwater harvesting and water quality management strategies. Shri Bikramjit Mandal, Research Associate (Agri.) and Course Coordinator, conducted sessions detailing water quality assessment techniques. A major highlight was a hands-on practical session where participants were demonstrated how to perform basic water quality assessments using a Field Water Testing Kit.
​The training concluded with a valedictory ceremony led by NERIWALM officials and guest resource persons, acknowledging the active participation of the attendees.

Based on the study titled “Reassessment of Water Availability in India using Space Inputs, 2019” conducted by Central Water Commission, the average annual per capita water availability for year 2021 and 2031 has been assessed as 1486 cubic meter and 1367 cubic meter respectively. Annual per-capita water availability of less than 1700 cubic meter is considered as water stressed condition whereas annual per-capita water availability below 1000 cubic meters is considered as a water scarcity condition.
This highlights the dire need to save water. Every drop saved matters.

North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM) organized a Hindi Workshop on 25th August,2026 with the objective of promoting the effective use of Hindi in official communication and strengthening the use of the language in institutional activities.

The inaugural session was graced by the *Chief Guest, Prof. Nidhi S. Bhattacharyya, Department of Physics, Tezpur University and Chairman, Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC), Tezpur, along with the Resource Persons, Shri Rajiv Nayak, Deputy Director, Regional Office (North Eastern Region), Department of Official Language and Dr. Kul Prasad Upadhyay, Hindi Officer, Tezpur University.

The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Laishram Kanta Singh, Director, NERIWALM, who extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Resource Persons and all participants and highlighted the importance of Hindi in official communication Dr. Uzzal Mani Hazarika, Professor, NERIWALM, also addressed the gathering during the inaugural session and shared his valuable insights.

The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to enhance their understanding of the use of Hindi in official work and to encourage greater confidence and efficiency in Hindi communication.

The programme was attended by officials from other departments and officials of NERIWALM and concluded with valuable insights and an encouraging exchange of knowledge on promoting Hindi in official usage.
