Tribute to Padma Shri Smt. Gita Upadhyay
It is with profound grief and deep respect that we pay tribute to Padma Shri Smt. Gita Upadhyay, an eminent educationist, acclaimed litterateur, translator, and dedicated social worker, whose passing has left an irreplaceable void in the literary, educational, and social landscape of Assam.
Smt. Upadhyay's lifelong contributions to Assamese and Nepali literature, education, and social service earned her the nation's prestigious Padma Shri in 2025.
Beyond her literary and academic achievements, Smt. Gita Upadhyay rendered exemplary service as a Member of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Sonitpur, for two terms under the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU). She worked with unwavering dedication for the care, protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration of children in conflict with the law. Her compassion, fairness, and child-centric approach reflected the true spirit of the Juvenile Justice system and positively influenced the lives of countless children and families.
Her life was a shining example of selfless service, integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to society. She will always be remembered not only as an accomplished scholar and Padma Shri awardee but also as a compassionate guardian of children's rights and an inspiring mentor to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
