Snake Rescue Call — Missamari Army Complex | 24 November 2020

Responded to a rescue call after a snake was reported to be hiding inside an Army officer’s car at the Missamari Army Complex.

The vehicle had to be carefully checked, including removing several parts to inspect the interior thoroughly. Despite an extensive search, the snake could not be located.

Based on my assessment, I concluded that the snake had most likely escaped from the vehicle the previous night. The owner was relieved after learning this and was no longer worried.

I rescued and documented the first recorded Salazar’s Pit Viper in Assam at Ganesh Ghat, Tezpur, in September 2019. This was an important record for the state and added valuable information to our understanding of the species’ distribution.

Following the rescue, the snake was safely released at Bhumuraguri Reserve in the presence of the Tezpur Forest Department. The department has been actively involved in the protection and conservation of snakes and other wildlife for many years, and their continued support for such rescue and conservation efforts is truly commendable.

Every rescue and field observation contributes to our knowledge of Assam’s biodiversity and highlights the importance of accurate documentation, responsible rescue, and wildlife conservation.

এক সুন্দৰ পদক্ষেপ ভাল লাগিল। সৰ্প বন্ধু’ উপাধি লাভ কৰা আমাৰ ভাস্কৰজ্যোতি বৰা আৰু উৎপল শইকীয়াই ২০২৬ চনৰ জুলাই মাহত জাগীৰোড আৰু মৰিগাঁও অঞ্চলত কেইবাটাও সৰ্প উদ্ধাৰ অভিযান চলাইছিল। এই অভিযানৰ সময়তে তেওঁলোকৰ দৃষ্টিগোচৰ হৈছিল অসুৰক্ষিত অৱস্থাত থকা প্ৰায় ৮০টা চকৰী ফেঁটী সাপৰ কণী।
বন্যপ্ৰাণীৰ স্বাভাৱিক জীৱনচক্ৰৰ প্ৰতি সন্মান জনাই কণীসমূহ তাতেই ঘোলা হ'বলৈ এৰি নিদি দুয়োগৰাকী সৰ্প বন্ধুৱে কণীসমূহ নিজাববীয়াকৈ সুৰক্ষিত স্থানত সংৰক্ষণ কৰি উমনি দিয়াৰ ব্যৱস্থা কৰে। অৱশেষত দীঘলীয়া প্ৰচেষ্টাৰ সফল পৰিণতি হিচাপে আজি, ১৮ আগষ্টত, ৬৫ টা কণী ফুটি চকৰী ফেঁটী সাপৰ পোৱালিয়ে জন্ম লাভ কৰে।
পোৱালিসমূহক প্ৰাকৃতিক পৰিৱেশত মুক্তভাৱে জীয়াই থকাৰ সুযোগ দিয়াৰ উদ্দেশ্যে তেওঁলোকে পোৱালিসমূহ লাওখোৱা অভয়াৰণ্যত মুকলি কৰাৰ ব্যৱস্থা কৰিছে। এই পদক্ষেপে কেৱল সৰ্প সংৰক্ষণৰ ক্ষেত্ৰতে নহয়, প্ৰকৃতিৰ ভাৰসাম্য ৰক্ষাৰ ক্ষেত্ৰতো এক ইতিবাচক বাৰ্তা বহন কৰিছে।
