A proud moment for Kerala Startup Mission and Fab Lab Kerala!

"From Machines That Make to Machines That Matter: The Story of Urumi" was presented on the global stage at the Origins & Futures track, showcasing how innovation from Kerala is making a global impact.

Presented by Jogin Francis, the session highlighted the journey of Urumi, an open-source flatbed cutting machine developed by Fab Lab Kerala to address real educational needs. More than a machine, Urumi represents the power of open-source innovation, distributed manufacturing, and community-driven problem-solving.

This achievement reflects Kerala's growing contribution to the global maker movement and marks another milestone in Fab Lab Kerala's mission to advance digital fabrication and nurture innovation.

The Startup Meet Gathering Kerala, held as part of the South Asia Snakebite Innovation Roadshow, successfully brought together startups, researchers, healthcare professionals, innovators, students, and ecosystem enablers at Kerala Startup Mission, Kochi.

Organised by the Malla Reddy Foundation for Research & Innovations (MRFRI) in association with Kerala Startup Mission, with support from the £6.25M Wellcome Snakebite Innovation Prize, the gathering created a meaningful platform to explore innovative approaches to one of the world’s most neglected public health challenges.

From insightful discussions and expert interactions to meaningful networking and knowledge exchange, the event sparked conversations around how innovation, technology, and collaboration can come together to develop impactful solutions for snakebite and advance global health.
