As of 2001 India census, Cherunniyoor had a population of 37219 with 17184 males and 20035 females.[2]
The village is about 4 km to the south of Varkala, an important pilgrim centre and beach resort in Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) District of the Indian state of Kerala. The village has government-run primary, upper primary and high schools, a post office, bank, agriculture office and the local
panchayath (local government) offices. Cherunniyoor has developed spectacularly in population and infrastructure in the late 1990s.
