New York, March 15, 2016: BSP supremo Mayawati has struck a note of caution and has a word of advice for agitating students of JNU.
She made some remarks while talking to reporters in the Parliament gallery which unfortunately have not yet been highlighted so far on March 9th, 2016.
Not only she spoke with passion but in this vicious atmosphere, she actually emerged as the voice of calm and reason.
When JNU students burned Manusmriti, the ex-Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh was not at all amused and in fact called the act ‘unnecessary.’
Not just that, Mayawati also instead tried to calm down tempers and said that in today’s time only brotherhood can eliminate casteism completely.
Mayawati also said that some elements were using Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s name to burn this book however, they do not understand Baba’s feelings.
After this, Mayawati also spoke on the works that her government did for the people, and stressed that her government worked for the Dalits, downtrodden, and all the castes.
She did not stop at that and in fact, said that after the Constitution was drafted at that time the governments in power had no intention to give rights to the deprived but that was a different era and now, we, the people, will have to devise new ways to eliminate casteism.
The ex-Chief Minister also addressed the controversy on the Sri Sri Ravishankar’s program and said that she is not against any spiritual program done around River Yamuna or Ganga or any other river but every should abide by the law and order.
Today she also demanded the Bharat Ratna for the late Indian leader Kashi Ram highlighting his work for the deprived communities of the country.
Her statements show that she is flexible in her ideas and has the inkling that the politics of the 21st century will be based on mutual respect and harmony in the society. Also, with the Uttar Pradesh elections around, and the state being embroiled in communalism, her words show statesmanship.
