Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: Tree Plantation Drive Organized in Ramnagar

Ramnagar, August 25, 2026: As part of the “Women for Trees – Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Campaign under the AMRUT 2.0 initiative, the District Urban Development Agency, Udhampur/Reasi under the Housing and Urban Development Department Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory orchestrated and successfully executed a plantation drive at Bindra Ban Bowli, Ramnagar.

The drive was spearheaded and facilitated under the able stewardship and mentorship of Jaffar Abbas Batt, Project Officer District Urban Development Agency Udhampur/Reasi with zealous and enthusiastic participation from Self Help Group members, departmental officials, and local inhabitants and residents of the area.

This impactful initiative aimed to underscore the significance of plantation and afforestation activities, promote ecological sustainability and environmental conservation, fortify community engagement and public participation, and inculcate a profound sense of ecological responsibility and environmental stewardship among citizens.SHG members under DUDA were actively involved in the plantation activities to empower them as “Green Ambassadors”and “Eco-Champions”, spreading the message of “Go Green, Grow Green” across Ramnagar.

While addressing the distinguished gathering, Jaffar Abbas Batt emphasized and reiterated the paramount significance of planting trees.He elaborated that trees play an indispensable and pivotal role in fostering sustainable development, augmenting and enhancing green cover, combating and mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity and wildlife habitat, improving air quality, recharging groundwater reserves, and ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable planet for future generations. He fervently urged everyone to adopt the noble practice of planting at least one tree in the sacred name of their mother, as a heartfelt tribute to both Nari Shakti and Mother Earth.

The event witnessed overwhelming and active participation from officials of the District Urban Development Agency Udhampur/Reasi, dedicated members of Self Help Groups, and other key stakeholders. All participants wholeheartedly joined the Greening Initiative of the Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD), J&K UT.

A total of 50 saplings, procured and sourced from the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Ramnagar, were meticulously planted at the designated site.
Prior to the plantation drive, comprehensive site cleaning, sanitation, weeding, and thorough ground preparation were systematically undertaken to ensure a conducive, favorable, and optimal environment for plantation. Pit digging and excavation for 50 saplings was successfully completed and finalized with expert technical facilitation and guidance provided by the Forest Department pertaining to appropriate species selection, standard pit dimensions, spacing, and scientific plantation methodology. Requisite manpower, labor support, and logistical arrangements for the said operations were efficiently mobilized, coordinated, and arranged with the proactive involvement of SHG members.

To ensure proper care, maintenance, and long-term sustainability, essential equipment including Hand Gloves, Khurpi/Kandal, Garden Rake, Water Pipe, Weeding Tools, and Pressure Sprayer was provided at the site.The plantation area has been designated and earmarked for regular maintenance, watering, mulching, weeding, and diligent upkeep by SHG members to ensure maximum survival rate, healthy growth, and robust development of the saplings.

The meaningful and impactful program culminated with the distribution of refreshments. Participants expressed immense enthusiasm, unwavering dedication, and steadfast commitment towards transforming Ramnagar into a greener, cleaner, eco-friendly, and environmentally sustainable town. They took a collective pledge to act as “Green Ambassadors” and to spread awareness about the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative in their respective wards and neighborhoods.

Orientation Programme for SHGs on Credit Linkages and Income Generation Activities

August 24, 2026:The District Urban Development Agency (DUDA), Udhampur/Reasi, in liaison and convergence with the Department of Social Welfare, Udhampur, conducted a one-day Orientation Programme for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of Udhampur district. The programme aimed at promoting financial inclusion, facilitating credit linkages, provision of subsidized loans, credit linkage support and providing sustainable income generation opportunities for women.

The proceedings of the programme were initiated by Sh. Jaffar Abass Batt, Project Officer, DUDA Udhampur/Reasi, who formally welcomed Sh. Minga Sherpa, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur. A detailed PPT presentation was showcased during the event highlighting key initiatives, achievements and activities executed by Sh. Jaffar Abass Batt since assuming charge as Project Officer, DUDA Udhampur/Reasi.

The programme was chaired by Sh. Minga Sherpa, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur. While addressing the gathering, the DC encouraged and motivated the participants to make effective and optimum use of government schemes and institutional support for expanding their existing activities and establishing new micro-enterprises.

The programme was attended by Sh. Parvaiz Naik, JKAS ,Chief Executive Officer, Jammu Urban Development Agency (JUDA), Ms. Kanika Gupta, District Social Welfare Officer, Udhampur, along with other senior officers and dignitaries from various line departments.

The orientation focused on sensitizing, educating and empowering SHG members about various avenues for accessing institutional credit, strengthening their financial capacity and undertaking viable and sustainable income-generating activities. The participants were also oriented on the significance of prudent financial planning, judicious utilization of credit for productive purposes and strengthening their group-based enterprises.

Resource persons from various departments including Employment, Agriculture, Horticulture, SBI-RSETI, JKEDI, Handicrafts & Handloom, DE&CC and Lead District Manager (LDM) interacted with the SHG members and provided detailed sensitization and comprehensive guidance regarding credit linkage, bank finance, available welfare schemes, entrepreneurship opportunities and livelihood avenues.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Minga Sherpa emphasized that strengthening SHGs can play an instrumental and transformative role in creating sustainable livelihoods, enduring economic opportunities and improving the socio-economic well-being of women.

Parvaiz Ahmad Naik, Chief Executive Officer, JUDA, while speaking on the occasion, stressed on enhancing productivity in the activities undertaken by Self-Help Groups and encouraged SHG members to focus on products with high market demand to expand market reach and generate enhanced income for SHG members.

The programme provided a vibrant platform for SHG members to raise their queries, understand the process of availing credit facilities and explore suitable income-generation opportunities. As part of the event, SHG members proudly exhibited and showcased indigenous, handcrafted and value-added products which were visited and inspected by Sh. Minga Sherpa, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Sh. Parvaiz Ahmad Naik, Chief Executive Officer,JKAS , Jammu Urban Development Agency,Jammu ,Sh. Jaffar Abass Batt, Project Officer, DUDA Udhampur/Reasi, Ms. Kanika Gupta, District Social Welfare Officer, Udhampur, along with other senior officers and dignitaries.

The participants expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the initiative and sought continued handholding, mentorship and support for strengthening and scaling up their enterprises.`

Refreshments were served to the participants .The programme concluded with a firm commitment to facilitate greater convergence and collaboration among departments, financial institutions and SHGs to ensure effective credit access and promote sustainable livelihood opportunities for women in the district.
