As a western hangover, we must have seen glass ceilings and walls which the Indian climate doesn't permit (Green House Effect).
Or you might have witnessed Teak Wood Flooring in areas which are humidless.

When millions are spent to get that - Elite look to your housing, close to none brain cells are used behind the need!

But inhabitants of Dediapada just know what housing materials are sustainable, economic and environment friendly for their houses.

The security provided by the right to property can do wonders. Homes in Dediapada are designed lovingly. Particular attention is paid to colors and entrances.

Doors are multicolored - typically have motifs around and bells or other hangings. Even walls are multihued.

Because the forest rights act ensures they won’t be evicted from their lands, they invest more in their houses :)

So the floors of homes in Dediapada use cow dung again for flooring apart from coating walls with them.

Apart from obvious cooling, the dung also has antibacterial properties.

Monsoonal creatures like centipedes and bugs are less likely to be inside houses coated with cow dung.

Just like we paint our homes or whitewash it periodically, homes with cow dung flooring undergo a fresh coat and refurbishing every year keeping them fresh and new!

Thanks to the brilliant combination of .singh.5264 and in getting out this reel capturing how tribals of Dediapada design their homes to keep them naturally ventilated and cool.

A combination of bamboo and mud ensures the homes in this region of stay cool naturally.

The bamboo homes of Dediapada are fortified with a layer of mud and cow dung. This combined with the high ceilings helps keep the homes cool naturally.

Of course the maintenance work is a bit as the layering has to be fortified on a regular basis but on the plus side, the home gets a fresh new feel every year :)

This week we are going to talk a little about the houses in . Homes here have two stories or an attic floor.

The community here is a farming community, they grow grains for the year around and store them in their homes. To create space, attics are built into homes which act as a granary.

The high ceilings of the homes also keep them cool in summer.
